Default Diagnosis for perpetually sick child..FINALLY!!!

Ok so just to reiterate...my daughter has been getting very sick ever since we started raw eating 5 months ago. She would suddenly get a fever out of nowhere and other symptoms such as vomiting, sore stomach etc. I figured it was food poisoning or something similar and I was blaming the raw diet although back in mind I just didn't want to believe it could be that.
She continued to come down with sicknesses and I got more confused because prior she was a very healthy child. I started thinking that it was a serious illness such as diabetes. I brought her into the doctors and they were very confused too. They did a blood test and everything was perfectly normal. Her doctor said if it continues to bring her to a specialist.

Last night her fever was getting worse and worse. Usually it goes away within a day or so but it was already almost 3 days so I brought her to the ER. They checked her urine and I finally found the culprit, she has a bladder infection. All this time of worry and blaming raw foods and now I know that it is a chronic UTI that refuses to go away and it probably has nothing to do with the way she was eating. In fact cooked foods were probably irritating it more. Now that I look back in her food log she would get sick right after eating a lot of cooked foods!!!!

It is such a relief to finally know what is wrong with her. I know the reason why she got it too so it's so obvious to me now. I just knew something wasn't right w/ her because usually she is such a healthy child.

Since I did not catch it early she is on antibiotics (and probiotics). She is now her old self after just 2 doses.

Anyway thanks everyone for all your support! I am so relieved to finally know what was ailing her and to know it was not the raw food diet.

Wow, I wouldn't have thought that could cause vomiting and such. Good to know for future reference and VERY good that you know what was ailing her finally.

    Sedona,
    I never knew this either that's why I didn't suspect a uti.

Here are the symptoms of uti's in children:

    Diarrhea
    Loss of appetite
    Fever
    Nausea and vomiting
Flank or lower back pain (with a kidney infection)
    Frequent urination
Inability to produce more than a small amount of urine at a time
    Incontinence
Pain in the abdomen or pelvic area
    Painful urination (dysuria)
Urine that is cloudy or has an unusual smell

Glad you finally discovered the culprit! Perhaps having her eat fresh cranberries (maybe drizzled with agave...?) or cranberry tea will help as well.

Glad to hear about your daughter getting better. Sorry I didn't see this post until after I had posted on food posioning thread. It just shows how different children are then adults in everything from UTI to appendix.

    Sailaway-
Thanks for posting your son's experience on the other thread. It was so similar to my daughters it was eery. Its good to hear your son is better!
I asked my daughter to hop on one foot and she could yet if this sickness does happen again I'm not going to completely eliminate that it could be her appendix because your story is so similar it's crazy. I feel like going and getting her checked right now just to make sure.

I have a dog that is prone to UTI's and I have a very sordid history with them myself. Since I discovered cranberry capsules at the health food store, both my doggie and I have been able to avoid antibiotic precription drugs. Even if I wake up in full bloom, all of the pain, fever and chills to go with it, i start dosing myself with the caps and do great.

Blessings to your child, what an aweful experience!

I had a UTI back in 2001 and twice this year I'm almost out of cranberry capsules. About time I buy some at my local supermarket...*writes reminder down on piece of paper*

I am going out tomorrow to buy cranberry tablets to always keep on hand. Also Uva Ursi is good.

Rawkinlocs- I've always been prone to UTI's too but I don't think we would get them at the same time ??? That would be weird but I guess possible. I think maybe I was just experiencing mild upset from something I ate. I'm really not sure. Her symptoms were always 10X worse than mine. I do still think some foods might bother us more than others like dehydrated foods, and macademia nuts. I may bring dd to a allergist because I know uti's can be from a food allergy too.
