yeah, its been getting all cold and autumnal here too so I have been making heavier, spicier foods.... I live near the Canadian border in the Pacific Northwest and it gets very chilly and rainy here, but so far so good, the heavy food ad spices really helps me.... maybe that could work for you? Make things like herbal tea and miso to enjoy hot along with your raw foods, that helps. And try more traditionally autmnal recipes... like today I made the mashed potatoes and gravey from Alissa's book... I was skeptical at best that they might be remotely good, but holy moly, it was awesome and filling and salty like the real thing, amazing! Try a recipe with lots of cinnamon, like some sweet potato pie (ask me if you need the recipe) or maybe try Alissa's broccoli soup (also AWESOME!) but add a bit of cayene and curry, thats what I did and it made me feel warm inside. Get into sprouting, buckwheat is especially easy because it only needs to be soaked and I made a cereal out of it today (dehydrator recipe from Raw Food Real World) with maple and cinnamon... I'm going to eat it with almond milk.... and tomorrow I'm going to use my sprouted barley and wheat to make the zuccini and cinnamon raisin breads from Alissa's book..... as I write this I'm having some hot blackberry tea with a bit of lemon, agave and sake in it (leave out the sake if you aren't doing wine) and it is really warming me up.... basically, the point is that when you do the heavy and spicy foods it has the same effect of warming you up and filling your tummy in that satisfying way even though technically they are cold.... you can also use a dehydrator to warm soups and breads and things like that.... keep eating those fresh fruits and veg because they are so essential, but maybe try some of this stuff....

You have a choice, if you want to be raw than be raw, if you want to eat other stuff, than eat it. If you wanna do both, then do both.

When I really feel that I can't do raw anymore, then I let myself eat cooked until I realize that what I really can't do is cooked.

Have you tried warming up your raw soups in the dehydrator or crock pot? You can even use warming spices if you are into that OR is the thought of raw during the colder months getting to you?

Yup raw soup can be heated up a bit.

    Bruschetta is raw. Easy peasy.

Coffee heh heh heh.. I make my own raw coffee! I make sesame milk & add a dash of organic coffee extract! I can totally justify this because I also use vanilla extract in some recipes. heh heh heh.. YUM btw it makes awesome coffee frappuccinos too!

I make warmed tea, and warmed soups, and warmed flat breads, and I use alot of garlic, and onion, and ginger and cayenne, makes things taste hotter than they are.

This is true for me too. I will eat "healthy" cooked, then it goes to garbage-y cooked and I start feeling really bad and back to raw I go. You'll probably do the same thing Stiletto.

Stiletto, :) Go to East Coast and See Mike(can't remember his name) and have him make you some soups or warm me up dishes :)

Anyway, I would just say, you have to decide what you want to do and go for it. It might not be 100% raw, or maybe not just right now. Like others have mentioned, when you start feeling like crap, or once you've eaten too much SAD, then maybe you will be ready to go back Raw.

Wishing you well in whatever you chose to do, but try to hang in there. It's hard sometimes, but hey... all we can do is try!

Tangerina, Can you send the Sweet Potato Pie recipe. I could use some. :)

Just get creative and as Revvell says "always play with your food." Ive been wanting something warm in the mornings so Ive been soaking raw oats overnight, drain, put in vitamix and add water to the oat line, dates, and blend until warm. It makes a great oatmeal and add agave, cinnamon, and raisons if you wish. Theres also a couple chai recipes here somewhere and they are great as well.
Pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie are sounding really yummy right now too. Cant wait to make some.

    Adrian,

Here is the recipe as it was written on the website I got it from:

Raw Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe #151259
Creamy, slightly sweet casserole topped with walnuts. Yes, it's made with raw sweet potato and the texture isn't exactly like your typical sweet potato casserole, but I love it! Tweaked the original recipe from Herbs for Health magazine, which called for dehydrating the nuts. Prep time does not include soaking the nuts overnight.
    by yogi
    6 servings
    30 min 30 min prep
1 1/2 cups pecans or walnuts, soaked overnight, then drained (let dry a bit on a paper towel)
4 cups peeled and chopped sweet potatoes
    1/2 cup water
1/2 cup dates, soaked for about 20 minutes
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla (this is not a raw product)
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 cup honey

Put potatoes, 1/2 C nuts, dates, cinnamon and vanilla in processor and puree till smooth.
    Pour into a casserole dish.
In another bowl, mix the remaining 1 C nuts with salt and honey, and sprinkle over the potato mixture.
I enjoyed this at room tempurature, but still good straight out of the frig.

It is really good!!! My ex ate half of it in one sitting and he was kind of skeptical about raw food being yummy... I added a bit of agave since the amount of dates I used didn't make it quite sweet enough, but you can adjust.

Thanks Tangerina for the recipe. I will let you know how I like it once I make it. (Probably not right away, maybe in a few weeks).

Here I thought I was the only one! Seriously... it seems all the veterans of the board are generally "totally raw" and it's the newbies who talk about the problems staying raw. I've felt like a stinkin' loser sometimes because I get drawn back to the "healthy cooked" which leads to french fries, which leads back to raw again eventually.

Ahhh... Kelly and Sharon! I am right there with you. After years of doing this I still fall into the "healthy" cooked, followed by junkie cooked, and then always head right back to raw. All within a few days and then I am fine again till that cooked food monster strikes again. You are not alone, I am right there with you!

Many people are raw for health reasons..raw is the healthiest way to eat, the natural way to eat, etc.

But I believe it's more than that. And sometimes thinking about the more can give us the strength to hold on that one more day that gets us over the hump...or brings us back on course if we've somehow headed in another direction. This thinking has always helped me to overcome certain things when I would really focus on in and think about it, and I hope it might be of some small help to you.

All around us in the air are libraries of information. Every radio show, every tv show, every satellite transmission, every cell phone call..etc. From the very first one to the very last. Right there..all we need is a way to access it and you would be able to tell your neighbor about his bank transactions.

Likewise, creator beams his love, his guidance to us and it surrounds us every second of every day. All we need is a way to access it. But he has given us a way...and it is our body. Your body is not just a vehicle, it's a receiver. When the body is in a pure state, transmission comes though loud and clear..even as it's moving to a purer state, people begin finding clarity in their lives and values and ideas changing spontaneously. Life is in the blood it is said. In even the healthiest cooked food diet, the blood is filled with toxins and I liken it to sludge...transmission can be slowed down and even stopped. Our minds become less clear, less focused, our body struggles to maintain itself under the assault it is coming under...and it's true purpose, imo, has been thwarted. Anyhow, these are my thoughts .. and what I believe to be true. I am considered something of a woo-woo by most people, lol, so take it for what it's worth, but it is a reason besides health ..which I can sometimes toss out the window..to be raw.
