    Default Dorky Dehydrator Question

Okay, I just got my 9-tray Excalibur (happy dance). Here's my new to dehydrating question...

Is it safe to leave this thing on when you leave the house? I'm assuming so, since some stuff needs a long time in there. I just had to ask, because obviously I'm not going to sit in my house until stuff is done. We all know a watched dehydrator never, um, dehydrates. :)

You CAN leave it. It's the same as leaving your washing machine or dishwasher on while you are out. It's not like an oven, where something might burn or smoke or catch on fire.
A tip - if you don't have the model with the timer, go to your local hardware store and pick up one of those $5 timers that they sell to set your house lights for when you are on vacation. You can plug your dehydrator into it, and set it to come on and turn off at any time you like - when you are home or out.

    Great Idea!
    live out loud.

    Raw since 1/5/07.
Many unwanted lbs. gone - guesstimating 45-50.

It's not my diet. It's my lifestyle.

    That IS a great idea!!

I have another dorky question - are the temperatures in Alissa's book in degrees F?? I see to have a dh with degrees C on? There is no 105 on my one which is the temp Alissa uses a lot - mine goes from 35 - 65 degrees - does anyone know the conversion?
    Thanks.

Oh thank you so much for the idea! I've had it where it needed to be turned off in the middle of the night, and didn't know what to do about it.

    Frog,

    The formula for converting Celsius to Fahrenheit is: f = 9/5 c + 32

But if you don't want to do the math ;) here's an online converter
    And according to the converter, 40C = 104F, 45C = 113F

Here's another page that gives really good explanations of the formula, and mental math to convert. http://www.aaaknow.com/mea414x2.htm (can you tell i like math )
