Speak of the devil!!! Is everyone moving to San Francisco???

I just found out today that my husband got accepted to UC Berkeley Law school, so we will be moving to Berkeley in August.

I did some research online to look for the raw food situation in Berkeley. Cafe Gratitude came up. Then I got on raw food talk and the first post I see is about San Francisco and Cafe Gratitude!! Wow, it's meant to be....

    Default this is off topic.....

This is off topic, so please forgive me, but I do have to say that I am really scared and a little overwhelmed to move to Berkeley. I know it is the right thing, but we live in SLC, Ut right now..... so there is going to be a big difference......

Can anyone give me some comfort and tell me Berkeley is a great place to live???

PS thanks for the great pics Jennabobenna

On a recent trip to Cali, my bf and I ate at one of the CG's in San Fran. Let me put it this way --the check was about 100$. This was just two people!

There was so much cool looking stuff I couldn't decide what to order! I ordered one drinkie with dinner (which my bf kept sneaking sips off of ! ) and we ordered 3 appetizers amongst us two to share. We both ordered an entree and we both orders desserts! And no, we couldn't finish the dessert so we took them to go. I ordered another drinkie to go too. :)

I can't remember everything we had except that I ordered the Cinammon Bun for desert and I couldn't eat it because it was way too nut heavy for me (which is saying alot since I love nuts). I think I remember liking everything else though. :)

on the subject of San Fran, my bf and I are trying to move out to the San Fran area ourselves - hopefully We will be there soon. :)

    Wow! $100?

For the two of us, our bill comes out to about $40 (not including tip), but I go there so often, I already know what I want and have tried most of the stuff on the menu---with all the choices, now I can see why your first time would be that high. :)

Since Fuzzypeach is coming to Berkeley, there is a CG out here too.

this is the one thing I am REALLY looking forward to in regards to moving to Berkeley. RAW FOOD!!! We only have 1 raw food restaurant here in SLC, and it's okay, but it would be nice to have a little more variety. And the farmer's markets and fresh produce.... oh I am so excited for good produce!

I will definitely definitely check out this Cafe Gratitude...

    Looks stupendous!
The entrees run around $12-13; a smoothie about $7-$8.00; tea/coffee $3-4; appetizers $6-11; desserts around $7.00. That might be more information than you want. The prices are pretty reasonable really. Recently, my sister invited me to a lunchen her office was having for her birthday at Cafe Gratitude in Marin. The bill for about 12-14 people was about $220 including tax. That included several appetizers, drinks etc. Dinner and lunch prices are the same.

This is just to let anyone know they can can get a decent meal for around $10. A lot of the food is really filling too. You think it won't be enough but the food is so nutritionally dense it's completely satisfying.

yeah, pretty steep! But we were only in Cali for a week so I gobbled up everything I could! Ha ha! Once I move there I get to go as much as I want so I can try everything eventually. :)

I'm going to SF tomorrow - and cannot WAIT to try this place.

Look out west coast... I'll be on the loose.
    live out loud.

    Raw since 1/5/07.
Many unwanted lbs. gone - guesstimating 45-50.

It's not my diet. It's my lifestyle.

    Ok.

    What an experience.

It's more than raw food. It's a lifestyle.

We went for breakfast today. I'll just say this: the cinnamon bun made me buy the cookbook.

The dish I had was to LIVE for. Not to mention the wheatgrass drink.

And then there was the cleansing group of 14 going over notes and taking the supplies for their 5th and last day of the fast (per our server, who had joined them on the fast).

I went back later for dinner. I got the enchilada. Spectacular.

What's really amazing is the vibe of the place. The dishes are named things like "I am bonita." "I am rejuvenated." "I am grateful." "I am loving." etc.

When they serve you, they call out, e.g.: "Rebecca! You are rejuvenated!"

And when DH spilled some almond milk, they CHEERED him. "We celebrate mistakes here. It's a new way of being."

It was fantastic. Can not WAIT to go back tomorrow. =)

Haha, so now I'm not to the only one who goes multiple times in a week!;) Try the different ones - they all have a different vibe. I usually go to 20th and Harrison, but the one on 9th and Irving is my favorite for its garden and sun room.
