Thread: Friends and Raw

    Default Friends and Raw

Okay, so I've been talking to a friend of mine and I said I was craving bananas, and said I had had two of them this morning. I've already had 5 of them today and it's just 3:30! She was shocked!! And I know other people I know and friends think that eating this much is strange. But really, it's healthy!! I can sit down and eat a half a watermelon and someone would tell me I was strange that it was too much!

My mom keeps on telling me it's fine because well...it's all I'm eating since I'm back to raw. But has anyone else experienced this? Do explain!

    Yes!!!!

I'm only 17 and none of my friends can beleive the amounts of fruit that I eat. I can easily eat half a watermelon or 5 mangos. Lately I've been really struggling with avocados and have been known to down 5 or 6 small ones in one sitting!!!!

Yeah, I'm 19 and a lot of my friends watch what they eat. I don't anymore!! I try not to eat too much because I usually have allergic reactions. But now I'm eating like a container of champagne grapes, maybe two, in one sitting. They are soooo good!!!

Look: When people are eating 4000 calories a day worth of steak and pie.....OF COURSE they are going to think it's odd to eat 12 bananas in a sitting.

-It is not so odd when all you eat IS fruits and vegetables. Vegetables having very low calories.....it is not unusual for folks to eat many fruits or nuts - if that's the only kind of stuff you eat.

-I wouldn't expect people who eat very poorly to understand....or necessarily approve of my diet.

-My vent: I'm standing right in front of them - 10 times more muscular, flexible, and healthy than they are.....looking years younger. I tell them I have eaten nothing but fruit for several years. Then they look me in the eye and ask me where I get my protien from?! Sheesh! I'm sure if I picked up their car and tossed it across the yard - they would ask me if eating only fruit makes you weak! Ha! ha!

Haha, yeah, they would!!!!! I've been asked the protein thing for 7 years now, I just ignore them or go into my long speech lol. No one likes my longs speech. But people just don't ask me anymore.

My friends don't make such comments. However, I remember going out to eat some years ago. The restaurant had a salad bar and if it is a good salad bar that is usually all I'll eat. However at this point in time, my entire family was on a diet and we all had salad bar and nothing else.

There was a large party of people sitting one table over. They'd had their salad bar, appetizers, and had started in on their dinner. Yes, whole complete dinners. As is the custom in many places offering salad bars, there is only one size of plate. Small! So we went back for seconds on the salad bar. It was "all you can eat". As we were filling our plates, the large party at the other table began giving us dirty looks and making comments about what gluttons we were. Us? All we were having was salad! They had the salad, the appetizers and complete meals.

They didn't stick around to see that we had only salad. Not that it mattered, but I thought it was rather rude.

Also, some years ago I would somtimes dine at Sizzler. They too had an "all you can eat" salad bar. But they also frequently ran specials on some kind of dinner. The dinner included the salad bar and the price for it was cheaper than the salad bar alone! When this was the case, I'd order it, immediately ask for a box when it came, then box it up and take it to my husband. Heh! People thought that was weird too.

I'm 19, not that age matters at all but it shows that I may relate a little better to you. Anyway, I'm out of highschool since last year so obviously I don't have as much contact with friends and random teenagers so people don't scrutinize or what what I eat as much, but my friends know about my being raw. I've told them that sometimes a meal for me is 8 oranges or 3 bananas and they look really happy and excited because in highschool, I was anorexic and they were worried because I wasn't eating anything and what I did ate, I threw up. They are happy to see that I'm eating so much healthy food and keep it down. I mentioned to them that the reason why I eat so much of it is because it is all that I eat and most fruit is rather watery so I need more of it to feel satiated and that's fine for me. The calories are far less than the things they eat, even though I don't count calories and it doesn't matter at all to me.

lol...when I first went raw I was eating bannanas for dinner. I went to get my 3rd bannana and my dh said "you're gonna have another bananna?" this was after he ate two huge bowls of cooked chili. If I had 2 bowls or even three small bowls he wouldn't have mentioned anything. Of course I had to point out how much he was eating and we laughed about it. It's really too bad though that people are just not used to seeing large amounts of fruits and vegetables eaten in one sitting.

Hey mrandal you are doing great. Enjoy your bananas, grapes, and watermelon. Most people just don't understand the things unknown to them. My usual response is to give them this web address and tell them to check it out.

It can be so very frustrating! I really really want to talk about all this that I'm going trough (I have been 90 % raw for about a year and four days ago I went 100% RAW and VEGetarian, which is new for me _ I'm doing great thanks ) - how diet changes cured my acne, headaches and constant stomach cramps - yes I had that, for four years!! How I feel mentally clear, optimistic, constantly happy just by eating like I'm supposed to - well, like everyone is supposed to, really!BUT, and here is the catch , everytime I try to explain this to my friends (even my two closest girlfriends) they get all defensive as if I were offending them by telling why I eat the way I do...?? My family has been grrrrreat though, In the beginning they wouldn't let me do it, I think my mom feared I had gotten some kind of weird-ass eating disorder (lol) but as soon as they saw the results for themselves, (me not crying because I was in constant pain, my skin looking as peachy as when I was four and getting up early everymorning because I had too much energy to just lie around and do nothing - even on weekends!) they reckoned I was doing SOMETHING right...slowly they altered their eating habits too - I'd say they are 60% raw 30 % meat, fish, nuts and sprouts and 10% of all the BAD stuff!! So far so good - I'm hoping to convet them little by little - lol - sound like some wicked religious priest
Also, I work in a sandwich/salad bar and EVERY time I make a sandwich I feel like throwing it out instead of handing it to the customer - who have to PAY for it - imagine throwing money at your own decay!! I feel like making them a BIG salad instead and sharing this wonderful "secret" with them - here in Denmark no RAW books have been published, we have no raw-food shops or restaurants Generally, I feel like starting a RAW Wave - Open a raw food café and make a publisher house publish a RAW-food cook book in danish!!
