    There is no stupid question! Please don't ever be ashamed to ask something.

    It stands for Standard American Diet.

    I also read a journal by an African American guy who said that he used to eat a BAD (which he called a Black American Diet) and he said that was worse.

    Yuuup!!!! People say there aren't because they don't want people to feel embarrased (not speaking about this case ~ if I didn't know, I wouldn't have known either) yet, sometimes folk need to take a moment to think what they are asking before they ask. It's one of those "new agey" or pc things people say.

    Let's see what can of woms I opened here.

    SAD = Standard American Diet, is not only an american phenomenon...

    Nowadays, the urban areas around the world seem to be dominated by a SAD looking food - refined, devitalized, processed industry food.

    Since the long-term effects of such stuff are well documented, especially the cutoff from estimated life span, I sometimes prefer a more globalized interpretation:
    SAD = Suicide Aspirant Diet.

    Alba, no question is stupid. Recently I was writing to a friend who's a counselor. I mentioned SAD, and in doing so I also explained to her that the SAD I was talking about was Standard American Diet. There is another SAD that means Seasonal Affective Disorder. Basically that's when people feel gloomy when the live in the polar regions and it is dark much of the year, or just in wintertime anywhere. Sometimes this SAD includes depression which can be serious. So there's nevere a stupid question. When I first read SAD on this site, I had to stop and think for a second to realize the writer meant the Standard American Diet and not the other one. ;^)

    He said that is was worse because he said everything was deep fried, cooked in lard or fat and they ate lots of pork and intestinal foods like chittlings. His website was very interesting. I don't remember what it was though. Sorry
