    Default Beet Juice Affecting Digestion

Does anyone else juice beets on a regular basis? I've been juicing one medium/large beet per day along with various fruit juices every day for just over a week. I drink it immediately after working out. After a couple days of this, I noticed that my bm's have a slight reddish haze around them. It's definitely not blood since I feel great so it must be the beet juice.

Does this mean anything good/bad as far as cleansing or digestion is concerned? Has anyone else noticed this? I'm more curious than concerned.

I think this is normal, though it means that your digestion isn't perfect. I've heard of people testing their digestion by putting a few drops of beet juice into something they're eating and if they never see any redness they know they're fully digesting everything.

Actually I believe that some things will just come "out" they way they are, e.g. some food's colours and beet being one of them.

Many people have a greenish poop (sorry) when they have a lot of spinach for example. I think some things just cannot be fully digested.

I think it has more to do with the color of the food. If I eat a lot of red beets at one time I sometimes have pinkish urine or yes, reddish bowel movement. The gold beets don't seem to give me a gold tone. Heh! I remember reading something about this somewhere years ago. Said another food that can cause that is Oreos or Hydrox cookies (not that we'd be eating those) eaten in large quantity.

It's easy for me to tell when I've eaten something um "colorful" because the day after, I'll see reddish or green or even orange.

    At least it's never boring

    Talking This was so funny.............

I had juiced quite a few beets for my husband before he went to work and when he went to the bathroom he saw bright red color and panicked, yes he thought all kinds of things were going wrong but then he remember that he had drank the juice and calmed down.
He said he was glad no one else was in there with him, you know how people talk and he's vegan too, they would have had a field day with him.
It's funny how people that eat meat think that you're just setting yourself up for sickness and can't wait for the next opportunity to remind you of that.
How sad because they are the ones that are facing problems due to their diet and don't reconize it until it's too late.

Seeing beetjuice in your stools is a classic example of how we all vary in the strength of acidity in our stomach. If you have robust acidity in your stomach (one sign of healthy digestion) then you are less likely to see beet juice in your stools. Victoria Boutenko discusses this in her book 'Green For Life', where she says that the consumption of beet juice is specifically used by some Russian clinics to establish the strength of acidity in a person's stomach.
