First Day of Going Raw
I started raw today and so far I'm liking it. It hasn't been as easy as I thought it would be, mainly because I let my diet get crazy the last few months, with moving and my parents (non-vegans, of course!) visiting me. So I've been lethargic all day, my body temperature has been a little whacky (I was cold in the morning, now I'm hot...) and my body is aching like I have a touch of the flu. I expected that, though, so I'm not too concerned. It reminds me of when I cut out carbs to try and lose some weight - same type of symptoms .
I'm trying to keep a variety of food while at the same time keeping it simple. I had a fruit smoothie in the morning (with whey protein powder - I'm about 85% raw starting out) and a cole slaw with pecans and citrus dressing. Plan on having a salad with walnuts for dinner. I'm eating fruit throughout the day but not in huge quantities. So far I haven't been starving, which is a surprise, since I expected to be ravishing. That's one reason why I decided to keep the whey protein powder - it gives me a big protein boost in the morning and that helps control my appetite.
I'm hoping the detox symptoms will go away soon, since prior to the last two months I was eating a very healthy vegan diet. I'm anxious for the benefits of going raw to kick in.

You could always try adding tahini or coconut oil to your smoothies in the morning, the fat will help with the satiation, and that way you eliminate a non-raw food for a raw food. And congrats on the decision to be raw!

Yes the juice and meat of the young coconut (not those old brown ones) have really eased the transition for me.

Welcome! You are doing great and there are many people here with great advice and support to help you along. I needed that when I first began and still am amazed at what I learn each and every time I sit down at the computer.
I add ground hemp seed to my smoothies for protein, fat and EFA's.
Would you pass on your recipe for the coleslaw? the citrus pecan bit peaked my curiosity. :)

Thanks you all for the support. Yesterday I was feeling the detox terribly and I was starting to wonder if I could really do this. Today I'm feeling much better, though still not 100%. I did get a migraine and held off on taking a pill as long as I could but I caved in at the end (but at least my headache is gone now). I think my mistake was that I was trying to keep it too simple - mainly doing fruits and some nuts throughout the day and then a salad in the evening. I'm actually much more of a veggie person than a fruit person so that was a mistake. So today I'm adding a salad in the afternoon and I redid my menus for the week to include some of the wonderful nut pate and salad recipes I found on the web and I think that's going to work out much better for me. It's more preparation, sure, but I'm the type of person who likes variety.

congratulations on going raw :)
If you feel the need for a protein supplement, you can try a Raw Protein Powder in place of whey.
It's a very good product; one of the best vegan available.
Best,

jaurequi, thank you for the link. However, being a starving grad student (well, not literally, but you know what I mean ;) ) I can't afford to buy a protein powder for 30 bucks, since I intend on using it every morning for breakfast.
However, shocker of shockers, I did manage to find in my local grocery store Nutiva Hemp Protein Powder for a good price (and I live in a town of about 10,000 people, so this really is a shocker!) and tried it this morning and it seems like it's going to work well.
