i don't think it does. it has an oceany flavor, but it doesn't have that sort of funky taste that people tend to associate with cooked fish. it's just salty and mineral-y.

it does add a kind of fish-sauce-esque bouquet to warm miso soup, but it's not like canned tuna or anything

Tuna, salmon, flounder, and anchovies all taste different, so I'm not sure what you mean by fishy. I can say, though, that of the algae I've tried I like dulse the best.

I don't know about fishy. But I tried a small bit of dulse and wished I had not! Had a really salty, really strong flavor and one that I didn't like. In fact the odor was so foul I had to get rid of the stuff. But then... I've never liked the taste of fish. I did used to like some seaweed crackers, but I can't remember the particulars of those.

I haven't tried the dulse yet in the whole form, but I use the dulse granules in salads all the time. It lends it a seaweedy flavor that I really like from sushi

I think it tastes of the sea, and fish tastes of the sea (as long as it's fresh), so they have something in common (rather than it tasting of fish.)

To me, nori has a fishy flavor.... and I do not like it.
I want to try dulse but do not want to waste my money....

It tastes fishy to me. I use when I make things like tuna and salmon salads to give it that fishy flavor.

i agree with you....nori does taste fishy....i don't like it at all....

but I LOVE DULSE....it is sorta salty full of mineral...not fishy...but sorta ocean like..but in a good way...and tastes delicious in salads....especially with sprouts and avos....

buying it in the bag and tearing the pieces is even better than the little granules...

I had a conversation with my Japanese friend a couple of days ago. I have always disliked fish and as a result I can not consume any seaweed because of the taste.
She says that seaweed does not taste like fish but that fish tastes like seaweed. If I could get that idea in to my head then I may be able to eat seaweed.

That means, when you eat a sea vegetable, think of the taste as not a fishy one. Think of it as a salty ocean flavor rather than a fishy flavor.

If you associate a sea veggie with fish, it will just gross you out.
