Still here... alive..
Sometimes I feed a wild squirrel with almonds, but first I always taste a piece of every almond. A squirrel can die of one bitter almond (cyanide).
I don't think there is a problem with American almonds. The almond trees have been breeded to not carry bitter compounds, in opposite to the Sicilian and Spanish.
