Apricot Kearnals to prevent cancer?
I have read some stuff about a vitamin called vitamin B-17 that exists in the seeds of certain fruits, the highest amount in apricot kearnals but also in apple seeds, nectarine kearnals, millet, and even wheatgrass.
Some people say that this vitamin is necessary to prevent cancer or even cure it! Has anybody heard about this????
THere is also a resonable level of arsinec in apricot kernels so be very carefull not to use too many.

A year ago, when my friend had cancer, I did a lot of reading on the Internet on cancer cures. I came to what I thought was a very reliable website that talks about apricot kernal curing cancer. So, yes, based on that particular website, I believed it.

No, he never ate the apricot kernals. His tumor kept coming back & eventually he got a liver transplant.

Who knows if Laetril, also called Vitamin B-17 really works. There are still people out there who claim it does. I suppose if I had cancer, I'd give it a try. But I don't think you can just eat certain seeds and pits. I think it has to be somehow extracted.
Yes, I have certainly heard of this. I am even now saving some kernels from apricots and peaches. I remember eating these as a kid now and then, just because it looked like an almond. I also used to see women put a kernel or "pit" in the jar when canning these fruits. They said it enhanced the flavour, but maybe it also provided some protection from cancer. Who knows? (I wish!)
On the websites I have read, they also say not to have too many of them. I can't remember now if it is based on body weight or what, but those that recommend it for cancer prevention/cure always make sure to say how many to take. It is a potential problem, but they claim that there are few to no deaths resulting from even accidental overdose.

Actually, looking at that list, it makes me wonder why anyone at all has cancer if all those things contain a nutrient that is supposed to suppress/cure it. (??)
Since I had endometrial and ovarian cancer, I have a lot of interest in preventing a recurrance, so I have looked at this and am conscious of using some of the foods that are said to contain B17.
I have had people advise me to "just be moderate in all things", to just eat a "normal" "healthy" (SAD) diet and I will be okay. I look at them and wonder how they think that going on the way I was going when I got cancer is likely to help me avoid more of it in the future
What else can I do? I must try my best with the available present knowledge and hope it will be at least somewhat better than the non-advice I get from the medical establishment and assorted well-meaning people. Honestly, the medical establishment hasn't told me a THING I could do to specifically deal with this, other than "lose weight, exercise". DUUUUUHHHHHH! That is what they advise the whole population. Is there NOTHING that they can tell me after all that money that is spent on research???? All those telethons, walks, runs for the cure, lotteries...... GRRRRRR. It is a RACKET. The only thing they are spending that on is research into more chemo, more surgery and radiation methods. Not prevention, just "find it early" so we can shoot you full of junk that is NOT proven, has horrific side affects and will likely kill you anyway. Darn! I don't want to "find it early" - I don't want to find it at all! Does anyone else? DO THEY?
Then they have the audacity to condemn people who are trying to find alternative means on their own. We may as well. We're basically better off doing these things or even nothing rather than the "cut, burn and poison" regime now in vogue. We don't need it to be found after we have it. We need a whole paradigm shift in our thinking in this society-we need to take ourselves in hand and stop doing the things that cause it in the first place!!
Why do we only start thinking and doing something about changing our lifestyles AFTER we are diagnosed with something that took years to develop in us? Why is it not a CRIME to feed junk to us as children so that we are so locked in to addictions by the time we are adults, it almost kills us to change? Instead, people are being taken to court over feeding their children good food. People are being mocked and harassed by family and friends when they want to live healthier! This is beyond belief. And we thought we were an enlightened society!? Balderdash! (How's that one?) Talk about the Dark Ages!
How's that for a rant? Well why not? It IS a matter of life and death. For ALL of us.

It was probably cyanide that I read as well but who can blame me for mixing them up.

It's called Laetrile and it has not stood up to clinical scrutiny. Apricot pits do contain cyanide and it is very possible to die of cyanide poisoning from consuming them -- many such cases have been documented in Turkey.
As a child, I recall going into a health food store with my mom. The guy behind the counter showed my mom two apricot kernels in a little jar and told her he could not legally sell them because they were a low dose of poison. But he told her they could cure and prevent cancer if eaten on a regular basis but spaced out doses so that one didn't poison one's self. He didn't say how often they should be eaten, but he did say that every day was too much. He also mentioned that apple seeds were the same but had less poison in them. After that I'd sometimes eat the apple seeds too when I ate an apple. Then I'd snicker to myself and tell myself that I'd cheated death again.
Of course I was young and this was many years ago. I could be remembering wrong or perhaps not even fully understanding what he said. But I presumed it to mean that the low dose of poison somehow had a homeopathic effect.
I'v read the book " world without cancer" by journalist G. Edward Griffin and found it very informative. Got several copies of it.
We do sell apricot kernels here in the healthfood store and my "teacher" had amazing results with laetrile capsule that he used for his brother, it reduced the pain very quickly.
Vitamin B-17, commonly known as "Amygdalin", or "Laetrile", is a natural substance that can be found in a variety of species in the Vegetable kingdom. The greatest concentration is found in the seeds of the rosaceous fruits, such as apricot kernels and other bitter nuts. There are many seeds, cereals and vegetables that contain minimal quantities of vitamin B-17 and form part of our daily diet.
What is Laetrile (vitamin B-17/Amygdalin)?
Laetrile, commonly known as Vitamin B-17 or Amygdalin, is a natural chemotherapeutic agent found in over 1,200 plants, particularly in the seeds of common fruits such as apricots, peaches, plums, and apples. It is a diglucocide with a cyanide radical that is highly "bio-accessible." This means that it penetrates through the cellular membrane reaching high intra-cellular concentrations easily. Cancer cells, no matter the type of cancer, are known as Trophoblasts (See Trophoblastic Thesis of Cancer). These cells contain an enzyme called Beta-glucosidase, also known as the unlocking enzyme. When Laetrile comes in contact with the enzyme beta-glucosidase, the Laetrile is broken down to form two molecules of glucose, one molecule of benzaldehyde and one molecule of hydrogen cyanide (HCN). Within the body, the cancer cell-and only the cancer cell-contains that enzyme. The key word here is that the HCN must be FORMED. It is not floating around freely in the Laetrile and then released. It must be manufactured. The enzyme beta-glucosidase, and only that enzyme, is capable of manufacturing the HCN from Laetrile thereby affecting the cancer cell-and only the cancer cell. If there are no cancer cells in the body, there is no beta-glucosidase. If there is no beta-gllucosidase, no HCN will be formed from the Laetrile. The normal cells in our organism contain an enzyme called Rodhanese which "neutralises" the Amygdalin. This enzyme does not allow the Amygdalin to release the cyanide. In this way, Amygdalin only serves as glucose to healthy cells providing energy. Malignant cells do not contain this enzyme. In the absence of Rodhanese, the Amygdalin is activated liberating the cyanide radical inside the malignant cell causing its destruction. Detoxification of cyanide occurs, therefore, in normal mammalian tissue through the action of Rhodanese, which, in the presence of sulphur-bearing compounds, converts free cyanide to thiocyanate, a perfectly non-toxic compound. The thiocyanate is excreted in the urine.

According to the original theory, it means that the cancer cell releases an enormous amont of cyanid and can't destroy it. The cancer cell kills itself. The normal cell releases cyanid from amygdalin very slowly and destroy the poison immediately.
Research in this area has been hindered by big drug companies. I don't why. Wrong people came up with the idea?
The Hunza people in Himalaya, the most healthy people in the world up to WW2, ate apricot kernels dayly in the fruit season. Cancer was unknown there.
I often eat apricot kernels, if I like the taste, there are different sorts of apricots in the market.

Have you read "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell? He's a tenured professor at Cornell, and spent 27 years doing a study that he stumbled (while doing another study) on concerning cancer. It's very well written, and addresses the the inadequacies of the medical establishment to deal with cancer and heart disease, as well as the causes of these diseases, and the threat to the medical est. and various industries that curing these diseases would cause. I highly recommend it.
