    Red face Newby...hello

Hello everyone, I am fairly new to the raw food uncooking and learning to change my mind so I can change the rest, so I can be my best.

My journey began by getting a Dehydrator- 9 tray Excalibur and a Vita mix a year ago. But really my intentions were just to eat differently and did not know much about raw till 6 months later I was looking at cookbooks at Borders for jerky to make for my meat eating husband. That is when I stumbled on Nomi's Raw food book and then another, and I began to find for myself that I would like to dabble in it. I started to cut things out that were already addictive to me....refined sugar and soda pop. I have been very successful. I have not drank any coke or any other sodas in nearly 2 months, and have not touched refined sugar in same time. Dairy has been cut out for a week. Fresh Coconut has become my substitute.
The more I challenge and succeed the easier it gets to cut out the junk for good. Also the more I read and research about dairy the more I don't want it. Seems the dairy industry has branded more then just the bovine....society has been tagged and now its being milked for money, and obesity is the reward. Short of it- Cows forced to be pregnated for milk and the young calf is sold for veal- I don't want to be part of it anymore. Guess knowledge is power after all.

    Default Thank you

Thankyou for the warm welcome, askcassyfirst, flutterfly, and sweetgodess. It means alot. Yes, I have been to notmilk.com and it has alot of good info. Milk- It is all about the money to dairy industry, and since it promotes employment for other companies, ie, nestle, dannon, etc., and many others that use milk products for their products, I don't see them changing anytime soon. That is up to us to change what we can, and educate others when the opportunity is there.

Hi Autumn. Great to see you here. I have a husband that is a meat eater too. I know that having a non-raw eater in the house can be a challenge. I have been raw since January 2nd, 2005 so am new at this too. So please know that you are not alone. There are lots of people here going down the very same path. Good luck and Welcome! :)

    Hi AutumnBreez :)

I'm a newbie on the board too, and I've been approaching the raw food lifestyle over the last several months the same way you are - I'm gradually transitioning. Right now I've gotten to the point where I'm eating high raw with one cooked vegetarian meal per day. What you said is true for me, too - the more I challenge myself and succeed, the easier it gets!

I'm wishing you success on your journey and I'm looking forward to reading your posts.

    Claudia :)

Welcome! I too am struggling with the dairy thing....
I LOVE cheese, but I have not had any all year! But, it's hard...if you actually read the ingredients...most everthing has some form of dairy.

Interestingly (is that a word?) ) enough I am watching the news and they were taling aobut hte new commerical out about the happy cows in CA, making good cheese....well, WI is not happy about that. With WI being the "dairyland" and all! hummmmmm, alll about $$$$$$
