Talking It jst shows when you eat healthy you gotta keep eating healthy!

Okay, so I feed my dogs pretty good, all vegan dog food, and my cats as well. Well anyway I haven't been able to make them something rarely like I would like to cause I have been pretty busy. So I ran out of vegan dog food, so I went to the store to get some more (usually order it), and they didn't have any!
So I thought, I guess I can give them some stuff with meat in it, it was from Wild Oats anyway. And boy was I wrong!!!!!!!!!!!

After eating it (not me, my animals), my dog was throwing up blood and GROSS brown stuff that stunk so bad! And my other dog has this pink thing in her eye that we have to suractly remove I think, and it got HUGE!

So now I am just giving them grains with grated salad in it until we can get some more vegan stuff. I didn't notice anything different with the cats, but the dogs could not handle it! They can even eat canned salmon, but not that!

Now I wonder what would happen if I went and ate a hamburger?
I would not do that, but now I am even more scared, what if that happened to me?

Once you go healthy, you can never go junky without your body freaking out!

When did you decide to start feeling your dogs vegan? I would love too, but feel I should find evidence that it is safe. To me feeling my dogs the meat seem "unsafe", because of the quality of meat, and all of that. Do you have any info?

    Thanks

Wow! I know others may say something so I'll do it first haha...I said I was going to put my cats on a vegan diet and everyone was like "Noooo" since they're carnivores. Same iwth my dog. So how did you switch them to vegan food from the previous meat diet or were they always on vegan? I really want to switch my animals (1 dog, and 3 cats). I guess i'm doing a small transition. I'm taking out the canned cat food in the morning and replacing it with plain organic cooked chicken/fish/turkey/beef. Then I'm giving them organic dry food instead of normal. My older cats are stuck in their ways and don't like raw, but my kitten will eat it and eat fruits and veggies along with my dog haha.

    Aww, you're poor puppies!!

I was eating so healthy...and then went to a birthday party in the park and the ice cream man drove by... I couldn't resist and bought a character ice cream. There's no dairy in it, but it's basically frozen sugar! It was so delicious...but my body let me know the consequences the next day! I had the worst stomach pain! Ugh! It finally hit me that there is NO going back!!

and PS: I'm sure you've done your research, but are your kitties doing okay on a vegan diet?

Is the vegan food that you give your animals Raw.
Have you read the reports on "Pottingers Cat's". Animals need raw just like we do.

I cut out the junky dog food, then started cutting out the canned meat. They still get the canned stuff sometimes, and they don't react like that! So I think it shouldn't be to bad, but I would still like to get them off of it. They like apples! I'm not sure if the dog food is organic but it is vegan.

As for the cats, we feed them the same, but they eat birds and mice. We are rat free! We have 5 cats, used to have 7 but two got hit by cars! I miss them! Anyway, one of our cats eats almost anything, she loves cucumber's! She eats them like they are meat! She loves tomateos, and some other veggies and fruits, but those are her favorites! Oh, she does like banana's! I think the meat that they catch is fine for them, cause it's not from a can.

My mom did a lot of reasearch on this, I mean a lot!

I also watch by how they act and feel when they eat different things, like when my dogs eat meat they get mean and aggressive! One of my dogs does not need that cause she is already moody and mean to the other one, the other one is lazzy!

I also watch how I feel on the food I eat too, of course! Like even transition food, if I feel bad, that probably means it is not helping my body!

Oh! My cats did have the run runs after eating that gross food though! One of them kept pooping in our fireplace! And then on my chair! Very runny and gross and stinky!

I don't have info on hand at the moment. You could also try it, and see if it makes a diffrence?

I know the cats we have now are so fun to be around for some reason, maybe it is the way we feed them now? Most cats don't snuggle, and these do! One even sucks on my finger!

not sure if i could let my cats go raw then. They're indoor cats so they can't get mice and birds...

    Hi Startootsie,
I'm sorry to hear about your running out of vegan dog food and the negative consequences for your dogs! My dog is also vegan and she eats organic vegan dog food, and after almost running out one time, I now try and keep lots on hand. In the past when she has been sick - things she's caught after hanging out with other dogs. I have feed her brown rice and lentils, to ease her tummy back to the more processed, complex dog kibble. My dog didn't begin as a vegan, but after doing research on the vegan diet, and to cope with her sensitive stomach and allergies, it was a great change for her. She LOVES pretty much all fruits and veggies as treats - and doesn't even seem to miss her rawhide bones! The way I see it she is now healthier and happier; and so are the hundreds of animals it would take to feed her over her entire life span if she wasn't a vegan. Just keep with the simple diet and your dogs should be better within a few days (=

    Thank you!

She threw up again last night, everywhere! And my other dogs eye is still puffy, they should be okay soon!

I've moved my parrots from a processed diet to a raw, vegan. They used to eat pellets, seeds, and cooked stuff.. anything from beans and rice to hot wings. Heh.. they did love their hot wings. I still do feed them seed and pellets ocassionally. If I ever have an emergency that may be the only food I'll have avaible. Glad you brought this up though.. I've got to figure our how I'm going to get them fed while I'm on vacation.. erk. Got babysitters, but are they going to want to deal with my crazy food. Oh fun.

I would think that feeding a dog grains would be worse than meat. Aren't they supposed to eat meat? I would feed my dogs raw organic meat. I have friends who do this, and their pupps are in excellent health.

You're right lucinda, cats (especially) and dogs should eat meat because they are carnivores. My cats eat raw organic meat and bones. However, many people feed their dogs vegan and believe it is better for them. I think that dogs can get away with it a bit easier than cats because dogs naturally eat larger prey and get more veggies through their preys' digestive tracts. I don't understand it, morally or physically, but it is being done more and more. Some people report good results.
