Default How often do YOU shop for Fruits and Veggies?

    Well,
I can see now that there is a need for shopping more often because, I either run out of stuff to eat, or I buy too much of something and I have to eat it till im green in the face before it goes bad

Can you guys give me some ideas of what your RAW buying habits are like so I can avoid some of the pitfalls of handling so much fresh produce?

Any and all suggestions will be SO appreciated!!

It is just my husband and me at home and we shop twice a week.

If we don't get around to it and it stretches out toward a week, we are in real trouble. Totally out of many things, and the things that are still here are going bad already.

I have 2 fridges, no freezer-just the freezers in the fridges. I keep my nuts and dried fruits and bananas and frozen desserts in there. For nuts etc. I usually buy enough at one time to last me a month. It is the fresh stuff I get twice a week.
    Have a great day!

It is just my husband and me at home and we shop twice a week. When I get the produce, especially the spinach, parsley, cilantro-anything leafy-I wash and dry it then put it in vegetable bags. It stores way better and then I don't have it to do every time I need to use something.

If we don't get around to it and it stretches out toward a week, we are in real trouble-totally out of many things, and the things that are still here are going bad already. When I see some things starting to go too limp, I put them in the freezer. I actually like using my greens for my smoothies in a frozen state. In this weather it is more refreshing to have them really cold rather than at room temp. I know it isn't the ideal to freeze them, but it is either that or lose them sometimes.

For my greens, I go twice a week because I find they do not stay fresh enough for a whole week but that is maybe because I do not know how to store them properly. I wonder if it's better to keep them in paper bags or plastic bags. Plastic is so... UNNATURAL. I sometimes put them in tupperware, but that too is plastic. How did people stock things before plastic came along????

Fruit usually lasts me a week, because I make sure I buy fruit that is already ripe as well as fruit that still needs ripening. I shop mostly at the open-air markets for my fruits and vegetables and occasionally at the organic shop.

Non-perishable foods I buy about once a week as I run out of them or am in need.

I go shopping just about every other day. I don't buy a lot at once, though.

Well, for starters I get an organic produce box each week, with the exception of some weeks in the summer. I also have a small garden so sometimes most of what's in the box is a duplicate of what I already have a lot of. I really have to buy less in the summer because of the garden. I can also add things to my organic produce box. So there have been some rare weeks when I didn't need to buy anything else. I could get all I needed right there in that one shipment.

But most of the time, I make another trip or two to the store for additional items. I eat a lot of bell peppers and they don't necessarily last for a week. Same for tomatoes and lettuce. But I stock up on things like onions because they last a long time at room temp.

My biggest problem is making sure not to buy too much produce. There have been times I have to throw a lot of it away because it spoils before I can eat it. Used to be I could make a big pot of soup and throw any extra produce in it. Problem solved! But I can't do that any more. Something that was slightly wilted might not be noticed in a cooked dish, but there is no way I will eat it raw.

I've also had to become a little more varied as to what I eat. I used to have bell peppers every day for lunch. Now I don't stress about it if I am out of peppers. I simply eat tomato, celery or whatever else I have. It might not be my first choice, but by eating this way I am less likely to have stuff I need to throw away.

-I prefer fresh fruit, so I like to grab stuff about every other day....or every day even. No biggie.

at least once a week, especially with the heat here, a lot of my produce starts to wilt before I can get to it.

Sometimes, every day if I'm looking for something in particular

I eat mostly fruit, so to stay on top of the ripening process, I find it is best to go at least every other day. Often I go daily I don't mind going that often. I like being around all the fruits and veggies.

    All the best,

Two or three times a week, sometimes every other day to get things as fresh as I can. But I do enjoy shopping for fresh produce so I sure don't mind!
