The Weigh Down Diet - taking the focus off food
I thought this was interesting, it was passed along to me. It is mainly for people who have a lot of weight to lose, but I found it intriguing because it is about taking the focus off of food, which many people constantly have issues with, I know I do. This is spiritually-based.

I tried to watch this, but it is of Bush and the Iraq war, so I don't know if it is the link, or what?
-
Oh, thank you RP. I will try to change it!

It just says, "SORRY THE CLIP YOU REQUESTED IS NOT AVAILABLE"
although it looks like it WAS there, then it just skips to Bush, YIKES!!!
-
That is strange. The link is working for me. There's a short commercial then it moves on to the clip. It is on MSN
I wonder if anyone else is having trouble with it?

The link worked well.
I'd forgotten all about this particular diet program. Hopefully it will regain momentum. The USA has quiet the epidemic on its hands.
It is, therefore, evident that it is possible to cure by foods, aliments and fruits; but as today the science of medicine is imperfect, this fact is not yet fully grasped. When the science of medicine reaches perfection, treatment will be given by foods, aliments, fragrant fruits and vegetables, and by various waters, hot and cold in temperature.

Oh - I'm glad the link worked. RP, did it ever work for you?
My DH thought it might be good for me to utilize some of the methods because I need to control my fat intake for my cholesterol, and I often "snack" when I'm truly not hungry. I think it would work for people with not only weight issues, but general health issues who need to watch things like fat intake and eating when not hungry.
I was thinking of trying this and of course using raw food when hungry. I'm going to see if my library has it.
LOL - after watching it, I noticed there's a video on a "hungry snake" a python who eats a blanket!

The basic principle behind Weigh-Down is simply eating only when stomach-growling hungry and stopping when that hunger is satisfied (NOT full!). The spiritual part of it is VERY controversial in Christian circles because of Gwen Shamblin's "church" known as The Remnant Fellowship, whether or not they are a cult and statements made by Gwen denying the Trinity.
The other day though, there was a clip available through the Today show where some people lost alot of weight following her principles, including a couple that lost nearly 600lbs together.
If I can snark a moment...Gwen looks anorexicly thin and apparently nobody's said anything about the bad 80s hair. I suppose she likes it that way, and that's good for her, though. Just be warned. ... I'll see if I can find that clip for you...

I don't know how long this will be up there. Scroll down and on the right hand side it's the first clip under Thursday about "Couple Prays Pounds Away" or something like that.

Thanks
Sharon, thanks for sharing that link! I had never heard of it and I do believe it sounds like a good principle really. I do believe in God as my Saviour and while I do not need to lose weight and am in supposed healthy range for my height, I can see where this would be something that might be helpful for me to stop the emotional eating as He can fill that void! I even tend to over eat or eat emotionally on raw! While I won't be buying the book, I can definitely take what I learned from that video link and try to apply it to my own situation (like you) with raw foods!

I hope RP gets the link as I would like her take on this. :)

Her "church" is in the area I live in. Attendance is by invitation only, I believe. I agree with what has been said about the controversy surrounding this group. If you go on line to the Tennessean (Middle Tennessee newspaper) at Tennessean.com and do an archival search, you may find some articles that explain the controversy. I don't want to go into details here, because I would be reporting on my recollections only.

I just searched the Tennessean's archives and one must buy the articles (bummer). They provide a portion of the lead paragraph for free. Here are a few leads.

Ya, I've heard something about that in the headlines.
It doesn't concern me so much. After I read the book from the library, I'll come back to this thread and give a review of it. Actually I am sure that Amazon.com has some interesting reviews.

the idea of responding only to my body's hunger is quite appealing to me....following the body...instead of stuffing it ...even with raw food...as for the controversy...isn't there always one????
