Body Fat Percentage

I am no expert, but having said that there is something that just doesn't make sense. You weigh 142 and are 6 foot tall (which is slim to begin with). If you have lean body mass of 101lbs, then lets say you wanted to have a body fat of 15% (which is reasonable), then you could only weigh 115lbs! That would probably appear sickly to most people. So that leds me to conclude that either the FLABFIGHTERS system is at least a little off or you need to add some more lean muscle mass. Reality is probably both.

You should trust your scale (which uses electrical current impedence based on water in the body which correlates with fat/lean body mass ratios) before you trust flabfighters. They are using only measurements...and if someone carries their weight in the middle, they will come up with a higher body fat percentage than someone who carries their weight in the hips and legs.
My waist is really small compared to the rest of me..so when my measurements are used (esp. when leaving out a hip measurement as flabfighters does) my body fat comes up lower than it actually is.

Thanks for that link though....I am going to use it as just another motivation. Even if the initial number is wrong..you can keep track of a reduction in body fat. I like that it will generate updated reports when you input new data.

Thanks guys. I know I'm not fat, just flabby in certain places (specifically my stomach). And as thin as I am, I'm definately not toned. I'm thinking in order to get my body fat to 10-15% without losing any weight I need to build up my muscle!
Oh, and when I asked him how he came to that measurement, because my bf scale said 17%, this is the response he gave me:
Anthropometric formulas developed by Wilmore and Beneke. Waist size in these formulas is considered a better indication of overall body fat level, and since you say your waist is where most of your body fat appears, that accounts for the higher reading. A body fat scale has no way to measure that type of body fat distribution.
I've further inquired whether his program can be doable on a raw vegan diet and I've yet to receive a response!
It would be interesting for others to e-mail him with your measurements. Anyone else out there brave enough to give it a try?

I know for a fact that the waist is not where most of MY body fat appears. My waist is 18 inches smaller than my lower hip LOL ... I registered on the site and am waiting for my report. I know it will say my body fat is lower than it really is..because I have done similar things in the past.... I think that those formulae do not work because some heavy people can have small waists...and some thin people can have larger, less defined waistlines. .
I have a tenuta scale and I have had people other than myself use it also..and I believe it is fairly accurate.. if you take into consideration your level of hydration. When you are dehydrated, your bodyfat will register higher....because there is less water in fat....and more water in muscle..so a lack of water registers to the bio impedence scale as a lack of muscle..hence more fat.
I hope you did not pay$$$ to the flabfighters.... I think eating Raw and going light on the nuts will definitely cut fat. I have lost 10 lbs in about as many days...and my body fat is down some also..which means it was not all water weight..though I know some of it was.

I agree with that... I know that when I had my bodyfat % done at a health club they told me that an avg. lean body mass for a woman my height ( 6' 1.5" )
was @133-135. Mine was @155 at the time..I had been lifting weights on and off for several years. So, I would think that your lean body weight is a bit low maybe..but I looked at your picture and you look beautiful. And your hair is great. ;)

That is really interesting...and so true! Wow, I cannot image an 18" difference between your waist and your hip! My waist is only 3" smaller than my hips, because I have narrow boy-hips. I'm one of those thin people with like NO waist. And I'm small busted (with a broad back to boot) as well so I look all out of wack! Kind of like a tootsie roll or something.
No I didn't pay anything...I just got the free analysis. Let me know what it tells you. He still hasn't answered me about using his program raw vegan - I already pretty much know that being low fat raw and excercising consistantlly will work most of it out anyway.

My scale shows me as having 26% body fat. I'm 5'4" and my weight was 116.8 when I started my 30 day challenge. As of today, I weigh 112.8 and my scale shows my body fat as 26%. Go figure! I wear a size 1 jeans and my hip bone and ribs show. My husband says I'm emaciated. I told him he was nuts because 26% of my body is FAT. I guess it's all in my "hind quarters"!!!

I'm thinking that is probably the most accurate out of them all. It's right in the middle. The scale said 17% and FLAB FIGHTERS said 28%.

My Flabfighters results
Hi Sharon...
As I though, the flabfighters method was significantly off for my bodyfat because I have a very small waist..with larger hips.
Body Fat Percentage: 19.16%.
Pounds of Fat: 42.15 pounds.
Lean Body Mass: 177.85 pounds.
Resting Metabolic Rate: 2460 calories
There is no way that is anywhere near my body fat. LOL It is probably more like 35%
I think my scale is the best way to go...it is actually calculating my specific body fat..not using some one size fits all formula. I use it enough that I can tell when an apparent change in body fat is actuallt due to a shift in hydration level....
If I were you, I would not be too concerned about the formulaic methods based on measurement.. I think there is just too much variation in how people carry their weight for those methods to be accurate, especially if your weight distribution is not average. If you want you can have it tested with calipers somewhere..or an immersion tank if you have a Research Univ.or even hospital l nearby with sports medicine. $$$
I know one thing for sure though....eating "Raw" is sure to make any excess body fat history...

Hi Elizabeth,
Well, after ishape told me I was at 20%, then my afternoon scale reading said 18% and the evening scale reading said 19% I just threw my hands up in the air and decided to keep doing as I'm doing and add in some weight training and then keep weighing myself just in the morning every week. I've fluctuated 5 pounds on that scale, depending on the time of day.
Have you tried ishape? I think that one may be the most accurate, as you are measuring all different parts of your body!
