    Question Soak, sprout and dehydrate?

    Greetings raw family!

What I started doing (to save time) was when I purchase my nuts, seeds, grains, etc...I'd soak them overnight and then the next day, put them in the dehydrator to dry them.

Is this a good thing or do the soaked foods have to stay moist? If I did dry them after soaking and or sprouting and a recipe called for them to not be dry, couldn't I just "reconstitute" them in water before using?

Also...while I'm on the subject of storing soaked/sprouted foods, what about the recipes...like if I made up a batch of nut burgers for example, could I just freeze some for another time and then maybe put in the dehydrator for a bit to thaw and warm them?

    Thanks!

    hi rawkins..
i think this is bout the difference tween raw and living food..i am not sure what freezing does to food..? say if it was still raw by the time you had dehydrated and froze and dehydrated it would be very pranicaly dead by then...

not sure bout your nut soaking...i know we "should " soak and dry..not sure then if we need to soak when using ? maybe just saoking before using is enough...????

Dried nuts have deactivated enymes (activated enzyme inhibitors) right? And we reactivate them by soaking before eating?
So why do you soak them then deydrate again?
Isn't dehydrating the same as drying?

I must be missing something :)

    Thanks for your replies ladies!

Marigold: I think I recall reading something about what you mentioned with freezing foods. I don't know, I'm not going to try and get TOO technical with all this in the beginning stages of being raw, though...too much of that will discourage someone (well, me at least).

Thunderstorm: I totally understand what you're saying about the RE-drying of the nuts, etc. But I guess I thought soaking of nuts as more of being for better digestion by the body. I DO notice that soaked/dehydrated nuts are way easier to eat and digest because they're softer. The texture ends up being totally different from what they were pre-soaking.

And, I guess the whole idea of eating "wet/moist" nuts is a turn-off for me. I also noticed that some recipes (in Alissa's book and other places) call for soaked, then dried nuts/grains. The buckwheat crunchy cereal - sprout buckwheat then dehydrate till crispy, etc....; the cookies and breads we make...use nuts and/or grains that have been soaked/sprouted and then ground and then...dehydrated.

All this is just now coming to mind as I type (about the recipes).

Thanks again for your thoughts on this.

Ok, so y'all know a baby was born this year from sperm that had been frozen for 30 YEARS?! I don't worry so much about freezing after I read that.

Marigold: LOL! yeah, I hear ya. Sometimes I don't soak either. But I do notice a difference when I don't.

Smasty: Yeah that IS a good point!!
