Talking finally made a juicer decision!

Well I did it after months of procrastinating!!! I just ordered the Omega 8005 juicer! I found the best price at www.healthnutalternatives.com. I hope I made the right decision, it will arrive tomorrow and I will let you know!

Just wanted to follow up. My Omega arrived via Fed Ex yesterday. Just opened it and tried it today. I made ice cream since that was my main goal here in acquiring a new juicer. I used frozen bananas,Mangos and strawberries. It is sooo easy to use, quiet and easily turned the fruit into ice cream but I am dissapointed with the nozzle tips. They all seem to be for pasta shapes so every one I tried came out like in an odd tubular or fettucine shape. Overall I am happy with the Omega perfomance but it is not the smooth custard style that the Champion produced . I will juice with it the morning and hope I love it.

you don't have to use the nozzles, they are optional.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Mara. I'm also thinking about buying this, mainly for juicing wheatgrass & making nut butter/ice cream.

Well I juiced with it this morning and loved the quality of my juice! I can not believe the minimal amount of pulp remaining compared to my old juicer. i got so much more juice from my greens! It is also very quiet !! I love it, I can juice and not wake the entire house.

About the nozzles, i did try it wthour one and it came out all chopped and in pieces. Not how I want my ice cream .

I am going to try making almond butter this afternoon! and have ordered a tray of wheat grass from my local HF market!

Pls. let us know how the nut butter turns out. It's a shame that ice cream didn't turn out better.

I know little about juicers, and I hope I made the right choice. My very first juicer was delivered this afternoon. It's a Samson GB 9001, made by GreenBison. Here is a link to it: http://www.samsonjuicers.com/samson-gb-9001.htm

I wonder if anyone knows if I made the right choice? Although it's too late now for me to change my mind! I did make some melon juice and it was wonderful. And it's so easy to use and to put together. It just takes a few seconds.

Yes, I'd like to hear how you like your juicer! I may have to replace mine soon, I use it alot more than I ever thought I would! It's just a cheap juiceman jr. that I got from a yardsale. I wanted to try out juicing, but when I purchase a nicer model I want the most bang for my buck. I would like to make nutbutters, juice AND ice cream!

The only way I know to take the skins off almonds that doesn't take all day is to dip them quickly into hot water and pop them off. As to how much lower than boiling will still loosen the skins so they pop off easily, I don't know. We want to avoid cooking the almonds. I know that they say with dehydrating, you can have the temp set at higher than you would think because the food doesn't reach that temp on the inside. Would that apply to water temp and almonds?

It really isn't so much work since you usually use only a cup or so of almonds. They really do pop off incredibly fast. That is the way you will get very white almond butter and milks.

Skins on? Yes you can. You must first soak the almonds to make sure to get rid of the enzyme inhibitors though. For sure several hours with a couple of rinses or overnight. There is a discussion on soaking almonds on here somewhere. I use them sometimes for milk and it really doesn't make a lot of difference to the colour of the milk. The KTec blends the almonds to a total pulp and then I strain it all through a coffee filter or nylon bag to get rid of the pulp which will be a little beige-ish.

If you are making nut butter and don't mind it a bit beige from the skins, it could even appear a little toasty and with the flavour of the skins, might even taste a little more robust. I haven't tried this, so others should comment. I would soak the almonds then dehydrate them otherwise when you try to make the butter you will end up with too much moisture. It seems that to get as smooth a butter as you can you need to add a little oil, not water.

So far I just buy my almond butter but I am sure that it would be a lot more economical to make it. Then you would be SURE it is fresh.

    Keep us posted.
    Have a great day!
