Bing Cherries
Curious if anybody else is being affected by them. They are in season now and oh, so good! I had some two weeks ago (in Idaho), fresh picked by my in-laws and full of worms, so I wonder if they were organic. They were rather tart, so I am assuming they were not quite ripe. I awoke to a very tender bottom lip. It was as if I had been hit, swollen and slightly bruised looking. I had no clue what happened.
Two weeks later, I am home (in Montana), purchased more cherries (no worms this time, so probably not organic). And they are sweet. Anyway, within 24 hours same lower lip is very tender and slightly swollen. This is when I begin to wonder if it had anything to do with the cherries.
So I am curious if anyone else if affected by them?
I remember eating them last year (lots of them) without any problems! And I was so looking forward to making Alissa's Black Forest Cake.
Help!

Yes some people have an oral allergy to Cherries. If so you would also react to foods in the same family which are : almonds, peaches, apricots, and plums.

Additionally:
-Underripe fruit can often cause similar problems.

Sounds like you might have an allergy. You should stop eating them. Such allergies tend to get worse each time you eat something. It could progress to the point of closing off your airway and that wouldn't be good.

I am having the same problem! I found this thread by searching, and am happy to know I'm not crazy.
I've had bing cherries and the regular dark-red cherries. They make my lower lip feel swollen and a little burnt. I've already resolved not to eat any more of them... but was still wondering if anybody else had the same problem.
Not that I *want* anyone else to have the same problem... :)

Either you are allergic to cherries, but if you haven't had this problem last year it sounds a bit strange. It can have to do with the unripeness, also with the kind of cherries (you have all different kinds) or with the pesticides on it. Don't know if you eat organic ones, but if you don't, perhaps you have become more sensitive to pesticides. Or perhaps the farmers have switched onto other pesticides?
You can bet that most, if not all, of the fruits bought in conventional stores are NOT organic (oh, how beautiful it would be if they were), thus sprayed with chemicals etcetra, so the problem may lie there.

I've tried Bing and Rainier, both from the Farmers' Market, and had the same reaction after eating 8-10 of them. I'm not having a reaction to related fruits like peaches, though. Weird stuff... I have reactions to a lot of foods, though. I'm on a long-term gut-healing program.
