Has anyone overcome joint pain by going raw?
Hi,
I've heard wonderful stories of people going raw and their pain being alleviated. I have had pain in my right hip off and on now for the last couple of years and it's probably mild arthritis. I'm wondering if anyone out there has had some sort of pain and then when they went raw the pain went away. If anyone has experienced this could you share your story with me?
Thanks so much.
Warmly,
Gaelen

Hi Gaelen..
I've had pain in my hips, knees, wrists and ankles whenever I did some "wrong" excercise (like jumping down and get a jolt of pain up through my legs or getting pain in my wrists if writing too long etc). This started when I was about 13 and persisted for 6 years. When I cut out diary it had a positive effect, very possitive and the only ailments I had was the occasional pain in wrists or knees and it took a lot more to provoke it. After I started raw in february my pain is almost gone if it comes it does not take long to disspell it again. Before we could be talking about days, now it is a matter of minutes or hours on solen occasions.
I believe it took a little more than raw though- belief. If you think of pain, pain will be there. If you think you do not want pain, pain will be there. If you think of a beautiful and healthy body, it is what you have. One evening I had had enough because my wrists hurt and had hurt a little too long, I decided it was not there and thought of them as not fragile but strong. If you believe raw will heal you, it will!

I had joint pain badly. Rheumotoid Arthritis and Osteo Arthritis runs big time in my family and I was thinking that maybe I had developed it. Well, now I am 100% raw and have been since 4/24/06 and since this time I can't not remember having any joint pain. I feel amazing!

I have not cured joint pain but I have cured joint stiffness. I do not think that it was just down to raw. I need to have sufficient ground flaxseeds a day or it will come back.

I had severe pain this winter going in to the summer....my hip and back hurt so badly i could hardly make it up the stairs...this went on for months and was very difficult for me as i love latin dancing and dance a few times per week also i could barely do yoga for 5 or 10 mins...first i released sugar and white flour...that made a huge difference....then i released alcohol and nightshade veggies....all of my pain was eliminated....then i started transitioning to all raw and using visualization in my life....there are some days when my body feels like pure energy...my pain only comes back when i have eaten either sugar, white flour, or alcohol....i will be adding back the nightshades to see if i can tolerate them....

That is the very first thing that changed for me when going raw.
I used to get up with back and leg pain and have to struggle through till I could "limber up".
After the first two weeks I woke up one day and I sat right up, stood right up and walked without terrible pain.
OH that was the first moment I new that I had made the 100% right decision. I have had a lot more of those moments since then you can betcha!!!
Hang in there stick with it, it hwlps SOOO much

Me, me, me!!! This is one of the things that is bowling me over about beint 100% for just a few days. I used to run and I didn't take very good care of myself while doing it, so I think that is what has led to my hip pain. It's gotten progressively worse as the years have gone by and I really feel it climbing stairs and when I go hiking. For the last few years, the pain sometimes interrupts my sleep and I have been soooo bummed about that. But as I posted yesterday, just these few days on raw has had a big effect on this pain. I am not stiff going up stairs anymore and this morning, I got up out of bed without stiffness.
At any rate, this has been my experience and I hope you have a similar reaction!

Me. It makes sense (in my little logical brain...my random therories) to me. When you eat cooked your body is acidic. This exress acid tends to build and sit in your joints. So when you go raw as your body becomes more alkaline that acid begins to leave your joints and cause the pain to dissappear. Maybe that is completely off, but it works for me

I also must report extremely positive effects from eating raw. I have been eating high raw with about 1/2 of the days being 100% and I have been blown away. I pushed 3 babies through these hips and they have never (correction, had) never been the same. My kids could not sit on my lap for long because I would have such strong pains and now, every day I eat no refined or cooked foods except cooked beans I have NOOOOOOOOOO PAAAAIN. Amazing!!! Life affirming!!! My yoga jumped three months ahead, at least. I can't wait to hear your results, Gaelen. Good luck.

If I stay very high raw or all raw, I have no pain. But slip down below 75% raw and the pain starts to come back in my joints . . . toe, ankles, hip, neck, along with headaches.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to express my heartfelt appreciation for all of your helpful responses. I am just beginning to go 100% raw and have decided to add some wheat grass juice to my diet and I think that is really going to help. I do believe that if I just stop thinking about the pain it will go away.
I look forward to creating some wonderful friendships. It's so nice to correspond with people who are on the same path as me. Let us all be the happiest and healthiest people we can be!
Warmly,
Gaelen

Absolutely,
I was contemplating buying a walker, because I had such a hard time walking.
My ankles knees and hips hurt so much that I couldn't walk up two stairs in our house, I was in constant pain,
I am now 100% raw for 4 months, and no pain at all.

Wow, this is interesting - I was having a major "realization" on this very topic just yesterday!
Here's the scoop for me personally:
I had joint pain in my fingers and shoulders for years before raw. The pain in my fingers could be tracked by how much stress I was feeling. The worse the stress, the worse the pain. Even "good" stress, like anticipating a great vacation, would make my finger joints hurt.
The shoulder pain was pretty constant, no variation with stress levels.
Well, a long time ago I learned about making ginger tea, and how it helps arthritis. AND sure enough, it worked for me. (one package of ginger, chopped up and put into a large pot of water and boiled at least 30 minutes. Stored in container in refrigerator, used as drink over ice or mixed with herbal tea.)
Then I started the raw lifestyle. In weeks, the following results: Pain in shoulder: GONE. Pain in fingers: GONE.
But, me being me, (totally addicted to how ginger makes everything taste great, including my morning green smoothies), I always used a chunk of ginger in my daily smoothie.
UNTIL two weeks ago, when I ran out. AND I was intensely involved in the project, so that I didn't run out and buy more until 4 days ago. The pain in my fingers CAME BACK almost immediately following not using ginger in my smoothie!
Let me also layer this with more information: I've been involved in an intense project for 4 weeks, and started getting stressed from it 3 weeks ago. But no pain even under the stress. Then, running out of ginger, OMG!
I bought the ginger 4 days ago, still stressed, added it to my morning smoothie, and: PAIN IS GONE AGAIN!
Shoulder pain never came back.
Go Figure!

Hey folks,
I have gone 100% raw and today was my second day. So far so good. I sure hope I will see results with my hip pain alleviating. I have decided to get a wheat grass juicer. I have heard amazing things about the healing properties of wheat grass. It is also supposed to really help with digestion problems, which I suffer from occassionally, specifically burping. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress, but I'm always looking for good advice or suggestions. I know that ginger is excellent for inflammation. I made a nice curry sauce tonight and one of the ingredients was ginger, it was delicious.
Stay well everyone!
Warmly,
Gaelen

For me, I have had more joint pain and muscle pain in the last two weeks then ever before. I have been raw for about 90 days. Don't know if it is connected - I think I am also having issues with digestion which could be a correlation.
