2 hour labor

Hello raw mommies!
My mother just attended the birth of a woman who is high raw this morning. The hard labor was only two hours--pain,transition,and pushing--and when we went this morning (I wanted to see the little one!) she was up and answering the door for us (It was a home birth). I just thought this might be encouraging to pregnant rawbies.

That's awesome! Although I had similar births and I wasn't raw, lol. I always love hearing about a sweet home-birth.

I sure wish my insurance would pay for a homebirth. That would be soooo awesome. I have checked prices and a homebirth in my area would be $2000.00, but in the hospital it will only cost me $50.00. Big difference.

Thats awesome about her pregnancy. I just attended a SAD pregnancy Sunday. She had intense labor for 12 hours. They had to cut her, baby was face straight up, and today when I went back to see the precious little boy, he has jaudice.
They suctioned him out so he had a cone head yesterday, but today the swelling has went down, but his head is all bruised.

He is such a cutie. He came 2 weeks early and weighs 6 pounds.

2000 dollars!!! WHOA. That's a lot. My mom is a lay-midwife so she doesn't charge. I feel really blessed now knowing what a homebirth can cost. I had my first son at home and it didn't cost since it was my mom who was the midwife.

It's so sad when a baby has such a rough time coming into the world, forceps, suctioning---any of that. But I'm sure "mommy" and "daddy" will more than make up for it. CUTE---6lbs? A little squirt! How long was he?

I'm interested to hear that your mom doesn't charge. Most "lay-midwives" do charge and some charge as much as 5000 in some parts of the country. I think the going rate for a lay midwife here is 2-3k.

She's probably referring to her mom not charging her (mother daughter!). That's my guess.

If the women was high raw, what type of cooked food did she eat?

The going rate for most midwives in my area seems to be $2800-3000. Small price to pay for a home birth in my opinion... Plus, most midwives will allow you to make payments if you aren't able to pay it. We still aren't sure how we will, but we know there will be a way. :)

i had a high raw pregnancy. my labor for my daughter was 6 hours from start to finish, BUT the first 4 to 5 hours were not rough at all. seriously. i was thinking about going to spinning class that morning because i didn't think she would be coming for awhile! but then i went into transition and then had maybe 3 to 4 minutes of active labor. seriously. then she pushed herself out and we were done. pretty amazing! so start to finish was an hour of transition and then the few minutes of active labor. i was at the gym a couple of days later. would have gone the next day! BUT promised my midwife i would be good ;) i was for a few days anyway. i felt great after she was born!

Um, im not sure how long, but he is pretty long. I know everyone was talking about it, (I think 26 inches, but not sure)

Well, I am considering unassisted birth for my second baby(you can read about it at http://www.unassistedchildbirth.com/ , although we are not even trying yet. My first was in the hospital with midwife and our insurance covered it 100 percent-I was so lucky. I wanted birth at home, but that would have costed us at least 4000, and we did not have it. it was a good birth by hospital standarts(completely nonmedicated, except local anestetic for stitches, no constant monitoring, no IV), but I missed peace and privacy, and the beauty of it.

That is a great birth story!! IF I have another I will do it all raw too.
My first was awful! I was a vegetarian but I drank A LOT of cows milk (and cooked foods) because the books told me to and I was naive. She was breech and I had to have a c-section. She was 10 lbs which was a shock to everyone including me!
Anyway it was a really tragic time for me. I didn't want a c-section. I remember crying so much when they told me I would have to get one. I was in so much pain after, I couldn't walk or sleep for days.
I hope next time (if there is a next time) I can make up for that awful birth with a truly wonderful one!!

It's amazing how much something as natural as childbirth can cost!

My first son cost me about $250 for doctor AND hospital. That was in St. Croix in 1971. It was a 2 hour labor and was easy as pie.

My second son cost me $500 for doctor and hospital. That was in Miami in 1975. It was a 5 hour labor and was easy.

My third son cost me $1500. That was in California in 1980. This one was a whopping 3 DAY labor!!! Quite a shocker after my other 2 easy births! 36 hours of it was hard labor. But there were complications. He really should have been taken Cesarean. If my grandmother (midwife) hadn't been there, I don't think he would have survived the ignorant allopaths!

Yes, tell me about it! How do you deal with documents for baby and other stuff, like what do you do with placenta, cut the cord, etc.
