    Default raw legumes....how to eat

    Hi!
I understand that you must sprout legumes in order for them to be considered "live", but my question is this: can you eat the entire bean as well as the sprout? Aren't they hard as rocks, or do they soften up?

    Thanks!

To my mind, if a food needs cooking or sprouting or anything-ing to make it edible, then we're not supposed to eat it. Just my opinion coming from a Paleolithic angle. :)

You need to sprout them. I sprout garbanzo beans for hummus and to use on salads. I also love sprouted lentils, mung beans, and aduki beans. They soften up when you sprout them. Obviously, they aren't as soft as cooked beans and they have a more grainy texture.

Red face Thanks Brianna! Do you have.....

    Thanks Brianna!

That's just what I was wondering about....... if and how the beans "softened" up. By the way, do you happen to have a raw hummus recipe that uses the beans? I was recently at a cafe' near my home and ordered an outstanding hummus/veggie wrap that I'd like to "convert" to a 100 percen't "living" recipe. I will share the recipe ASAP!

    Default recipe for hummus

    Hi violetgirl,

I know you posted this ways back last year but just in case you didn't get a recipe for hummus here's a link: http://www.sproutpeople.com/cookery/hummus.html

Just replace the 1 cup of sprouts with sprouted chickpeas or any sprouted legumes. It's delicious!

    Best wishes!

Default Raw legumes, some yes, some no

Yeah, my experience with sprouted beans corresponds with Ann Wigmore's wisdome on it, I think! I can easily enjoy sprouted mung, adzuki and lentils. The others so far with my experimentation seem to need cooked to be edible and I think that's what Ann wrote about it. Those with soaked nuts and seeds make me feel satisfied with protein.
