Default still can't make a simple smoothie!

Hey everyone, I am just wondering how exactly you guys are making all of these simple smoothies. Do you actually just throw all the fruit in the blender with some water and liquify? I don't have a juicer but I do have the Ktec HP3 blender, please help me!

    here you go,

    to make a simple smoothie,

    toss into your k-tec blender
    in this order:

    2 oranges (peeled)
    1 banana
    1 cup of ice cubes

turn on blender until this is all mixed together, pour into a glass, and enjoy

Once, you have this, and like it, then you can start freezing the bananas (peel before freezing) and using them, adding in fresh or frozen berries, cantaloupe, peaches, etc. You can cut out the ice all together, or add dates if you want it sweeter.

The way to make a smoothie, is to use some fresh and some frozen, you can use frozen fruit or simply ice, either way it should be fruit that you like.

Once, you can make these to your liking, you can start to add a touch of hemp seeds or flax seeds, or some greens.

Personally, I don't care for smoothies, I have one about every 2 years or so, I prefer to eat my fruit, but it can be nice in the summer months.

I personally like to cut up a bunch of fruit, arrange it beautifully on a tray, and eat it with a fork. Just seems like an elegant meal to me.

Here is how I make mine.
3 small or 2 large bananas. I throw those in the blender, broken in half , add a pinch of water, maybe 1/8 - 1/4 cup.
Blend a bit. Then I throw in some froxen strawberries and a handful of greens, such as mixed baby greens, romaine, baby spinach or kale.
Blend! Turns into a creamy delisious smoothie that remineds me of strawberry milkshakes. You cant taste the greens in it at all and can use any berries.
    Easy!

Where -WAS - it that I heard that mastecated food ( another word for either chewed or blended ) released up to 60% more nutrition than just eating with your teeth in its "whole" state?

Anyway, when I read that, I began working with the smoothy blender and the K-tec to create neat tasting stuff.

Three out of four of us in the house will eat a "greenie". My youngest will only eat raw ice cream.

    Default Option:

Put about 1 C. water in your blender; add whatever veggies you have ~ greens as the base, carrots, tomatoes, avocadoes, etc; some fruit (I'm currently using pears yet, you can add apples, mangoes, whatever you have on hand ~ just one to sweeten ~ blend until smooth ~ enjoy.

I could live on smoothies, I have 1 or 2 every day if not more! There are so many combinations and there are great suggestions in the posts above.

This is my basic formula although anything goes!

I usually start out with a banana, add another fruit which could be a peach or pear or apple, then some frozen berries such as strawberries, blueberries or raspberries; and then if you want to add some greens (spinach, kale, romaine) or some nuts (ground flax, walnuts, almonds), a date or two, and I usually add a sprinkle of cinnamon. Yum!

Smoothies are also a blessing for me as I have TMJ and the less chewing the better because I do enjoy a green salad with veggies most every day for lunch. That is more than enough chewing for me each day!

    Renee,
I read the book 'Fletcherism', but I thought the benefits were only obtained by masticating, not blending?

My favorite smoothie: 1/2 cup water, 2 good sized frozen bananas, 1 medium barlett pear (peeled), and about 7 frozen strawberries. YUM!!

Just curious, why do you peel the pear? I've used pears and apples in my smoothies and the only thing I've done to them was chop them in slices and removed the cores.

Here is a smoothie I just made:

Half of a watermelon quarter cut up a bit (it's a high-water fruit)
drain as much of the remaining watermelon juice into the blender.

While it is blending add cut up greens until it's a nice deep green colour. (it was about 3 or more cups packed, I didn't measure).

Result, a nice sweet green drink, and a great way to increase the green content of one's diet.

It more than filled two tall glass tumblers, which I enjoyed! I'll definitely be off to buy more rich greens today!

I also have the k-tec and what I do is:
grind 2tbsp of flax then I put in a few leaves of kale puree that and then add one or two frozen bannanas (sometimes they are not frozen) and then add your favorite sweet fruit. This morning I added 1 peach and a handfull of berries. I try to keep it simple so that the calories aren't overboard. That way I am still getting all of these great nutrients and still losing weight!

My recipe using my K-tec (I've been doing this for several years now):

1 cup of fresh squeezed oj (you can use a simple wooden reamer for this)
    3 ripe bananas

    blend on #1

    Add:

    1 cup of frozen peaches
    1 cup of frozen strawberries

blend on #3 or 4 until smooth

This is the basic recipe and is fool-proof. Your can add other fruits or frozen bananas if you wish, which would increase the smoothness.

Usually when I deviate, like the other day I used grapefruit juice with the orange juice, nobody would drink it, so I usually have to stick to the basic recipe and add safe fruits like blueberries, mangos etc. which don't compromise on flavor. I've added vanilla which every liked, coconut which I liked but my hubby wasn't thrilled about, so sometimes it varies based on peoples individual tastes. But the above basic recipe has never failed me!

    Hope you try it.

    Default Green smoothies

Green smoothies are the best best best! They are sweet and they help you eat your green leafy vegetables. My favorite is plain and simple- 2 cups of spinach (I usually use frozen organic from Trader Joe's, but you can use fresh and add ice also), three bananas and 1/4 cup of water or so. I just like it better without the skin of the pear. I've tried it with before, and just prefer it without.
