Green Star or Champion? Need help deciding
Hi,
Yes, I did a search and did not find the answers I was looking for so please help if you can.
Over the weekend a client brought over his champion juicer to show me how wonderfully it made ice cream! Wow was I impressed and was all set to buy one but then noticed the Green Star juicer looks the same but also does Wheat Grass ! I have a juicer so I am primarily buying this for ice cream but have always wanted to do wheat grass at home soooo.
My questions is does the Green Star make ice cream out of frozen fruit like the Champion does ?
In the search someone mentioned it freezes up ? Has this happened to anyone else ?
So basically I want to know if anyone uses the Greenstar for raw ice cream on a regular basis and how does the machine work? Does the ice cream come out like custard style ice cream as it does from the champion ?
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the Green Star does the same as the Champion for ice cream. The Champion definitely does NOT do wheatgrass and it doesn't do the best with greens either.

I have a Green Star and couldn't be happier with it - I absolutely love the carrot juice that this juicer makes.
Used to have a Champion many years ago, and I also loved the fruit 'ice cream' that you can make in the Champion. I was tempted to buy it for that reason alone, but I am very happy with my decision. Personally, I think the Champion does make a better fruit ice cream - but right now my favorite is whipping up frozen bananas w/a spoonful of water & honey & (add some nuts, too) in my food processor (think I found this idea on this website)...mmmm.
If you are going use it just for this, the Champion is cheaper, and I'd say go for it. But if you want to juice greens, even carrots, then the Green Power is a worthwhile investment. It grinds slower, so there are more enzymes resulting. (Sidenote - when I had the Champion, I used it as a grinder for the carrots & squeezed it by hand, with cheesecloth).

Love my Champion
I recently purchased a Champion to replace my Sampson 6-1. I love the Champion soooo much more. Yes, the Sampson did wheatgrass and since I do a lot of wheatgrass, I purchased a wheateena too :) By far, the ice cream is much better. The draw back with the Sampson was that you needed to cut up the frozen fruit, or for that matter, all veggies etc to feed into the tube. My Champion juices carrots in a 4th the time of the Sampson and has much dryer pulp. Most raw foodist refer to the Champion as a workhorse. Per the manual, you can do small amouts of wheat grass if you cut up the the grass into short pieces. You can look at the online manual at:
http://www.nutritionlifestyles.com/championjuicer.htm or their website www.championjuicer.com
You can blend wheat grass (small pieces again) in water in you vita mix or blender and strain.
Hope this helps.

I always thought that the Green Star didn't do ice cream. Is it different than Green Power?
I borrowed a Green Power from a friend years ago when I was deciding which one to buy.
I am so glad I went with the Champion. It is so much easier to clean and put together and take apart.
The biggest reason though, is the ice cream and nut butters. Not to mention all of the raw breads etc.. you can make with it.
My kids love the ice cream so much. During the summer they ask for it daily.
My friend that I borrowed the GP from actually bought another juicer afterwards because she felt like it was too much work to use the GP. I didn't think it was that bad but the Champion was better in my opinion. It also fit bigger sized carrots and other things in the chute. I often had to cut things while using the GP (not something I wanted to do for juice)
Hope this helps!

(had to walk over to the kitchen to check...)
Yes - the Green Power is now the Green Star. I love it - I don't think it takes much time to juice and clean up.
I'm still kicking myself (ouch, that hurt..) for getting rid of the Champion I got at a yard sale for $20. It was perfect, but we were moving across the country, back here to MA, and I didn't think I'd get a mover, and was selling lots of my stuff at my own yard sale ... oh well.
There is a bogus 'Green Power' machine I would avoid. Not the original, and I read some complaints about it.

I say neither, get the Omega 8003. :)

i vote for greenstar. you can make ice cream in your food processsor

I do make ice cream in my 7 and 11 cup cuisenart food processors but it jumps around all over the place and does not come out like the ce cream made in a Champion...i'm telling you the banana ice cream and strawberry ice cream we made with the champion came out like soft serve ice cream, the texture and taste was incredable....think I just talked myself into the Champion.

Hi mbf,
I remember going through the same dilemma when I bought my juicer. I have a Greenstar which I purchased used, and I found it is amazing for juice, vegetable, citrus, and wheatgrass. My deciding factor was the longer keep time because I'm too busy to juice everyday. I will try banana and mixed berry ice cream tonight and post my results for you because this seems really imp. (I've been looking forward to making ice cream :) ) I will admit that making banana in the fp is much easier than the clean up for the gs, but for berry ice cream I'm assuming it doesn't work.

I went through this same discussion with myself this past month! I did decide on the Champion and absolutely LOVE it! You are so right that the ice cream made in it can't be beat. My food processor will make no more ice cream now! Ha! And I juice every day with it too and have to say I am very pleased. I got the commercial one on sale including shipping for about $230.00 at Discount Juicers (online store).
Added: I've also put frozen cherries, berries, mango, and nuts through with the bananas and it worked great.
