    Question Sprouting buckwheat &...

I am going to make Alissa Burger Buns and Chick-un patties. When sprouting the buckwheat and the lintels how tall do I let the sprouts get? And for other recipies that call for sprouts how do I know how tall to let the sprouts get before using them? This will be my first try at sprouting. Thanks

I don't have her book in front of me, but I think it's around pp. 275-277 that explains how long to sprout.

Buckwheat usually just takes 1 - 2 days. And I usually sprout lentils 2 days. The sprouts are not long for either of these.

You just want to see the tail...with buckwheat especially, if you leave it too long to get too long of a sprout, they get all stinky and yucky. Buckwheat and I used to not get along, but now we have an understanding. I soak overnight and sprout a day and a half and I usually have nice little bud/tails and they make nice-nice! :) Lentils, same thing I figure...just till you see the budding tail.

I wait till I see the little tails popping out too. Alfalfa are the only ones I let grow really long, if you don't count mung beans, but I don't tend to sprout those that much these days.

Chickpeas are another bean that I just let a tiny tail start to show...

    Cassy. :) :)

Thanks you three, this helps. I'm excited about sprouting. I know I'll probably run into some set backs at first. Glad you all are experienced, I know where to go for help.
