    Default Fruit Cravings Missing

    Hello everyone,
I have been reading through many of the posts and have enjoyed all of the information you have here.

I have been vegan for 1 year and have been interested in raw for the last month or so. I feel like this in the natural way for me to go.

I am curious about fruit. I don't really have a taste for it or crave it and am wondering if like when I went vegan will my taste possibly change to include it? At present I don't eat sweets, chocolate, cookies, etc.. I sometimes drink a glass of orange juice but find it too sweet.

There are so many benefits from fruit that I really would like to have a desire to eat it.

Can anyone share any information of changes in cravings for foods your body made after going raw?

    Thank You,
    Sheila

Hi Sheila, it seems to me after being on this board for a while that most people have changes in the foods they crave when going raw. Don't force yourself to eat things you don't want, for sure. But I would bet when you go raw you will start to crave at least certain types of fruit. But until then just stick to veggies, sprouts, nuts, whatever it is your body is telling you to eat. Maybe just try different types of fruit every once in a while and you may find one day that you like it. :)

But listen to your body, maybe there's a reason it needs other things besides fruit right now.

If you don't have a taste for fruit now, you might or might not develop one. It is necessary to eat SOME fruit, but that can be fulfilled with tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, and the non-sweet things.

When I started raw I had a taste for sweet things, like dates, bananas, and dried fruit. I cut out bananas because they're hybrid and I felt an unnatural part of my diet. Lately i've noticed i have very little taste for fruit. I like green apples and berries. This morning I had three pears and I almost couldn't finish them because they tasted overwhelmingly sweet to me. I think it all depends on how much greens and fat you consume. Every person is different. :) Just being raw is the greatest!

    Hi Sheila,

I was where you are before raw. I wasn't eating much fruit. I did not like undercooked food either. Both likes changed! I love fruit now and I do not like stodgy (cooked) food. In fact, my appetite for fruit has grew so much that fruit is my favourite food.

No need to force yourself. Enjoy the journey and allow the changes in when they knock to your door (they will, they will).

    Best,
    Gosia.

My problem is the exact opposite. I *love* fruit but I'm having a hard time getting excited about vegetables lately. I know I need greens and such, but, for example, when I had my green juice today (apple, carrot, spinach and cucumber) it made me gag. And I've been drinking it three times a week for probably three or four weeks now. The idea of salads makes me feel gross right now, and I feel like I could probably live on pineapple and strawberries and bananas. Does anyone have any advice?

Yes, Berry Girl, my advice is to follow your body's instinct. It's perfectly alright. If your body needs greens, it will let you know. I've been through similar experiences too. I tend to really love something in some period, then my likes change, and so on. I am really into oranges now, for xample, and only a few weeks ago I did not care about them. There are weeks when I don't care a bout greens, and then I have times where I enjoy salads or lettuce wraps. I learned that this the way my body likes, and I accept it.

I was also vegan for 1 year before going raw. When I went raw, I didnt crave fruit until the 3rd month. Then, I was mostly fruitarian. Now, it's the opposite. Our bodies change, I think, on a regular basis.

I never thought I would stop eating mangos!! Mangos were my thing at the time. You hear of ppl getting physical fixations & they just binge on a certain fruit or two? I was up at 3am every morning eating these things. I couldnt sleep through the cravings.

For some ppl, it's watermelon. For others it's oranges. You just have to listen to your body & go with the flow.

Nowadays, I am easing into my rhythm. I have gotten a lot of eating out of my system. Felt like a rollercoaster. I now have my oranges for breakfast, greens for lunch, blueberries for dinner & later more greens if I get hungry in the night. By greens, I mean a good mix of romaine, etc, along with belpepper & a mean amount of cucumber.

To newbies or those NOT progressing, it sounds like I am shunning myself from everything fun. THis turns a lot of ppl off from doing raw for themselves. I eat what I WANT to. I've never seen someone ready to throw a party because she's got some serious colors going on in a salad, like myself.

I'm having a blast with this. I'm not missing out on a thing. I KNOW what the other foods taste like (the bad foods) & I know how sick they make me feel afterwards so I dont even worry about it.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I guess it's like when I went veggie and then vegan. Raw seems so foreign and a bit intimidating.

It just seems like I've reached a health plateau and need to move to the next level. I read an online journal of a woman named Shazzie last night. It took hours to do. I feel so motivated now and am sure this is the right thing for me.

The bonus may be that I end up liking fruit!

    Thanks again everyone,
    Sheila

For me, the thing about Shazzie that I liked so much was that she had the right "view" of the new diet, lifestyle. She listened to her body.

She wasnt one of these ppl (myself included, although I am no longer) that count EVERYTHING.... OVERanalyzing everything to DEATH. She just did it & moved on. I started to do that & I didnt progress until I did so.

I have a lot of respect for her.

I never liked fruit very much until I went raw. I was a vegan prior and couldn't eat much of it. I've only been mostly raw for about 2 weeks and I crave fruit a lot more. I actually wake up in the morning now and crave an apple or a banana. I love orange juice (only freshley squeezed with the pulp though).
If I were you, I wouldn't force yourself to eat fruit..just focus on veggies for now until you get a taste for fruit.
