Thank you SO MUCH for your suggestions everyone, you guys are the best. . . I have been able to keep down water, miso broth and young coconut water all day, 8 oz or so at a time so that is a BIG improvement over yesterday. . . it seems I'm on the upswing. tomorrow maybe I will try a green smoothie, albeit one much thinner than I usually drink. This is the first time this has ever happened to me and the thing I will most remember is how TIRED I am. . . so weak. I guess the body is working hard to expel whatever it is I ingested.

how many mangos did you eat I forgot to ask...
Just one, but I can normally eat 2 or 3 in one sitting, they do not bother me at all in terms of my digestion.
haul that hammer up over your shoulder.

I'm so sorry that has happened to you. The worst is those dry heaves.

The best thing I've done is drinking some kind of herbal tea, a very mild herbal tea such as chamomile or mint, so that when I do vomit it's not just the harsh acid coming up. The coconut water sounds like it is helping, plus taking care of any lost electrolytes.

Hope you feel better and happy Mom's day!

You're tired because your body loses a LOT of electrolytes from vomitting and diarrhea. I've had food poisoning twice and both times it was an exhausting experience. Pedialite, though not raw, is very good for restoring your body's electrolyte balance -- you seem to be on the road to recovery now, but I'd recommend that to speed up your recovery if you ever get food poisoning again.

If it's any consolation, I seem to have the same symptoms you do but I doubt it's food poisoning since nobody else in the family seems to have it. I didn't eat much yesterday. Only a few nuts for breakfast. We went to a Mexican restaurant after that, but had a late lunch so we didn't eat dinner. Nobody was hungry. My problems began just as I was heading to bed. Actually it was a few hours before I ever got to bed because I couldn't get out of the bathroom.

Now my stomach seems to be okay but my throat is sore from throwing up so much and I sort of have a headache around one eye. We actually celebrated Mother's Day yesterday in combination with my mom's birthday which is actually on the 9th. So today I've spent most of the day in bed trying to rest. Daughter keeps waking me up to show me the paintings she has been doing. Blah!

I consider myself an expert at getting food poisioning now! I lost count how many times i've had it in the past few years! Let me tell you what really works great for me! I rest & wait ahile before trying to keep anything down but try to have tiny sips of water & try to throw everything up to get it out! Once it feels like nothing is really coming up anymore I will have a doubleshot of fresh wheatgass juice. Note: it NEVER stays down! LOL just try to hold it in as long as possible though! About an hour or so later I feel sooo much better & I can tell i'm finally getting over it! Usually I will try to have young coconut water for the electrolites & nutrients & stuff after that. By the next day i'm fine! I have had it twice now without the wheatgrass & it lastes MUCH longer.

It sounds like you have a stomach virus. I was lucky to get it twice within the past few months. It was going around in my office. My doc said to only drink Gatorade for 24-48 hours and no food at all. He said your system needs time to heal. The first time I ate too early and wham, the diarrhea came right back. The second time I made sure not to eat at all and it really worked. Within 2 days I was completely back to normal. I had the extreme weakness too. Could not get off the bed for 3 days except to go to the bathroom !

Hope you're feeling better by now! I use "activated charcoal" capsules from the health food store. About three years ago I had my worst food poisoning ever! I couldn't even keep the capsules down and I was unable to keep even a teaspoon of water down for over 24 hours. After a few hours of trying the capsules I finally thought to empty the caps into a teaspoon and swallow it that way. I feel that it probably saved my life as I really dehydrated and I was totally out of it. Just last week one of my co-workers had a terrible bout with her tummy which we thought was food poisoning. The next day I had it really bad also (although we didn't eat any of the same food). It's hard to tell if it's bad food or some type of virus???? We use either the ginger tea or peppermint tea all the time for upset tummies or indegestion.

Blessings Swingbolder for a quick recovery!

not washing and scrubbing veggies that you peel can cause food poisoning. Many people don't scrub down a pineapple or a canteloupe or a mango before peeling it. If the bacteria is on the surface, then when you peel it your knife drags it across to the part you eat. Maybe it was like that with your mango or coconut? I have heard it is especially the case for canteloupes, that their netting harbors many bacteria, molds, etc., and the effects can similate the 24 hour flu. In fact, most of the time people think they got a 24-hour flu they in fact got food poisoning because 24 hour flus really don't exist. Most food poisoning happens in our own homes. Also, did you eat any raw almonds, they do posess some risk for salmonella.

Even raw foodies have to be careful with food safety. Another thing that is not safe is uncovered food in your fridge.

Good luck, other than bananas, maybe some soaked and blended buckwheat, then you could add something to flavor it for a porridge.

I had food poisoning on Mothers Day too - at 5 months pregnant to boot! Lucky US!

My midwife suggested Berberine extract. I haven't tried it but if you research it on line it looks good. Berberine is found in blueberries, goldenseal, and I think, grapes. She gave me a recipe for a sort of blueberry tea that you make by boiling dried blueberries and straining it... don't have it at my fingertips but I'll look.

    Cheers,
