    Are there any recipe software programs people use that they find helpful? Ideally, I am looking for one that is free.

    I don't know of any recipe software, I know of a ton of raw sites with recipes.

    Default Freeware Recipes Software

    Might be Gourmet Recipe Manager is what you are looking for. I use it! It's very good and is free!

    You can try RecipeIndexer to. I don't have any information about it, but is free too.
