Thread: Cocao nibs???

  1. #1

    Default Cocao nibs???

OK...I've been Raw since Jan-feeling great-lost weight-etc...but during the winter months I work from home so I did not use any cocao. Now I'm working megga hours so I started adding cocao nibs to my morning green smoothies. I mean to tell you I am just flying around like crazy.

Is this a caffeine *buzz* as it doesn't feel like one. No jitters-just very happy ..feeling-very euphoric. Any opinions...I know this has been discussed before-but is a tbsp a day of cocoa nibs that bad...

thanks for any input...flying *high* on the nibs...

YES, it is caffeine, without all the chemicals that are in regular coffee.

Well, after a night of not too much sleep-I am going to try and stay away from them as much as possible. They do taste good & I like the feeling, but I think it may be too much caffeine for me. Once in a while should not hurt though. Thanks for all the input...

    Lana and Enith,

You may be pleased to find out that Chocolate (cacao, cocoa) has NO caffiene! It is another chemical molecule in the xanthine family called Theobromine. This page has a great article on the differences between the two, including a chart with (albiet subjective) differences in how they feel in the body.

I don't know, it seems like chocolate sometimes makes me jumpy ... well, come to think of it, I haven't had anything else with caffiene in it for years, so I guess I can't really compare the differences myself in my own body. The article says the effects of chocolate are halved in 6-8 hours. That means not to eat them 6-8 hours before bed if you're having difficulty sleeping. Otherwise, I guess E N J O Y your nibs!
    Peace,

Wow..MangoMan,... thanks for the info. I am telling you I felt different than on caffeine. I just felt Happy/euphoric & big-time energetic. I am going through a rough spell at work right now-& it really helped me yesterday.

Now-I do have to watch what time I take them, as I did not sleep well. Thanks for the input... :)

Default Where did you get the cacao nibs?

I am desperately trying to stop my morning coffee ritual. I was wondering if it would help to eat a couple of nibs when I feel that urge to brew some coffee. How expensive are they?

I made some chocolate dessert a few days ago and put lots of nibs in. Had a large bowl for the past 3 days and it did not do a thing for me. I have to say that coffee never did anything for me either except made me pee.
Maybe I am immune to caffene

I think cacao nibs might help you wean off coffee, not for any stimulating effect, but rather because they're kind of bitter and taste a bit like coffee. (Especially "Raw Choice" brand). They're also so nutrient rich they can just be very satisfying.

I feel good when I eat cacao, but any different than how i feel good when I have a green smoothie or juice. I've found I can eat it in large quantities without any "rush". And i've never been a caffeine person and used to get absolutely ILL from the caffeine in coffee or soda.

unfortunately, cacao nibs are not raw, but you can buy them at www.rawfood.com I believe this is David Wolfe's website, and he sells them,

I bought some at our co op for $12 per pound peeled and they were okay, Dragggon likes them, I don't care for them much.
