As I am eating 100% raw for 47 days, not a long time, and not a short time, some cooked food has crossed my mind, and my "cooked food demon" inside me suggests that I MUST NEED this, (fill in the cooked food blank) because my BODY DESPERATELY DESIRES IT.
and I say, "HA, it is to laugh." LOL
I KNOW what a craving is, I've had plenty of them, I know what a true NEED is and I can tell the difference.
You see, when I have a craving for food, I know it is a craving, because I want a specific food, like wheat, or dairy, I want anything with wheat or dairy in it, any kind, whether it be sweet or salty or fluffy or flat, or frozen or canned or warmed or whatever, if I want wheat or dairy, I know it is a craving, and definitely not a need, same with meat, since I haven't eaten any in over 11 years.
Now, the difference is when my body really NEEDS food, it doesn't want a specific food, it only wants food. Anything will work, even stuff I don't like very much, like when an apple looks good to eat, I know I'm really hungry.
I mean apples are okay, just not my favorite.
So, when I MUST have a specific type of food, then I know it is a craving, but when I will eat anything, anything at all, then I know I am truly hungr
I never thought of it that way, but you are right.
When I am truly hungry, I stop being so particular and am happy to choose life-affirming foods.
Whenever the ONLY thing that will satisfy is a big honkin order of curly fries, I can be certain that it's my head and tastebuds whining at me, not my body.
Good point RP,
I have been "craving" something on the grill since i have been to 3 BBQ's in a week.....
The way I look at is as feelings , moods, and cravings pass. I just take a deep breath, enjoy the smell, then remember the feelings I would have the next day IF i ate it.
Cravings and true hunger--it is a gift you learned the difference and most importantly PRACTICE it.
Good eating to ya!
