    Question Is raw dairy unhealthy?

    Hi everyone,
I realize this is a vegan board, and I certainly don't wish to offend (Pre-raw I was 90% vegan myself, for ethical reasons... I just couldn't give up that cheese!)

Which brings me to my question: Is raw dairy (specifically cheese, which is the only kind that is legally available where I live) unhealthy, processed above 118 degrees, or do you simply avoid it on ethical grounds?

Thanks for clearing this up :)
    No rules, just raw! :)

I personally just gave up the last of my raw cheese. ;) I loved it! But when you are trying for 100% raw-cheese doesn't count. But to answer your question...no it isn't bad for you. Raw is awesome. Much better than the grocery store cheese. It still contains some enzymes. ;)

From what I understand according to articles and lectures by my raw vegan doctor, animal protein of any kind including dairy causes bone loss.

    Gwendolene,

Cheese made from raw cow's milk, which hasn't been pasturized, is indeed raw but not vegan. You may want to try eating raw coconut oil as it's partially saturated AND VEGAN. It may help satisfy your craving for cheese. So far as I know, coconut oil is the only raw vegan partially saturated oil..., which happens to be good for you.

Here is a good article on dairy products and why it's not good for you.

dairy is for baby cows, not humans, and humans should stop drinking the lactate of their own species at about age 2 to 4, depending on the culture.

the lactate of another species is not good, especially moldy lactate, which is exactly what cheese is.

raw cheese is much better for you than pasteurized cheese for sure.
Not vegan as you know though.
It's a personal decision and indeed yummy.
I've still found my body very phlemy (mucas) and more prone to breakout (skin)
on even raw cheese and do much better off of it.
I agree for optimal health no cheese is the way to go.

I have tried Raw goats milk cheese-I still craved dairy & had the mucas thing going on.

You can make delish cheeses out of nuts & other ingrediants. I know-I've made cheese dips for my *dairy* Wisconsin State parents & they loved it. If it can past their taste buds-then it's a winner.

I use Alissa's nacho cheese-but I don't dehydrate...the key-use a vitamix or high speed blender to make it smooth. Hope that helps..

If you are not yet convinced then you should read "The China Study".

Good point Sport! I just started reading that book!
Also I have been learning more about alkaline/acidity in the body and
how you want to be more alkaline to help prevent cancer...cheese leaves the body more acidic, and so does meat,
according to Victoria Boutenko in her latest DVD lecture,
" Greens Can Save Your Life".

Third recommendation for "The China Study."

The optimal amount of animal protein in a human being's diet is none.
Dairy is actually worse for you than meat, from a health standpoint. You already know the ethical ramifications of the dairy and meat industries (even the organic ones.)

It's best to dive in to trying to perfect vegan, raw substitutes. Eventually your tastes change (they do - for real - I used to loooooove cheese and had many setbacks because of it when I first became vegan) and you will lose interest in cheese. You really will learn to live totally fine without it.

I LOVE ALISSA'S NACHO CHEESE! I ate it right out of the FP and dehydrated it and had it like crackers....it tastes just like cheese. DH loved it (he's not raw) and a good friend of mine tried it and couldn't believe that it didn't have dairy in it!!

Allissas nacho cheese is the greatest! Yum. I hadn't ever tasted such great raw cheese before.

I do still eat raw, organic Goats milk cheese when the craving hits and the raw cheeses don't seem to hit the spot, and it's delicious. Especially if you can get it fresh from a local organic farm. Even though it's real cheese, I am still raw because the cheese is raw. Now, one thing I will never ever eat is raw meat of anykind, fish or likewise, however I do know of some who eat Sushi. I won't ever eat cow's milk products, eaither. Just doesn't sound too good. Can't explain it, it just doesn't.
