    Default Need to take B12.....

What is the best kind to take for raw vegan fooders? I spoke to the lady at the Super Sup store and she said that if it is lozenges they are vegetarian. Is this true? Would really like to find the best quality for as long as I need it.

Also, I do not want to take it long term so I need to know how to get my body to the best possible health to where I don't need it anymore.

Please help and thanks in advance,

    Divaitalia ;)

Thank you Pansy. When I saw this post, I popped right in.

According to my research, the preferred and most necessary to your health is sufficient amounts of methylcobalamin. There is cyanocobalamin which has cyanide in it that is partially converted into methylcobalamin, but it is not enough for what you need. Small amounts of cyanide ingested are perfectly normal and your body does have mechanisms to deal with converting it. You still need methylcobalamin in addition to cyanocobalamin. Also, cyanocobalamin does not address all of the nutritional benefits that methylcobalamin does that are essential for good health.

Here is a link to an in-depth discussion on B-12 and the pros and cons of each type.

I recommend methylcobalamin based upon my research, and my raw vegan doctor's recommendation.

    Hi Divitalia,

Yeppers, Methylcobalamin is the best!! I feel like a different person since starting to take the sublingual B12 twice a week now...it's amazing!

How are you making out with it Karen?

    Heather

P.S. I think it's ironic that the injection that one gets from one's Doctor is cyanocobalamin...which isn't as well absorbed by the body and has a cyanide derivative in it...very interesting.

    KARENISRAW,

Where do you purchase your B-12?
Do you get it form Jarrow's lik eon the thread you sent?

    Secret Heart,

It is still going GREAT! I started taking very high doses of methylcobalamin with the approval of my raw vegan doctor to repair the neurological damage that I got due to a lack of B-12 methylcobalamin. With the high doses (1000-4000 mcg) of methylcobalamin, I have felt about one incidence per day of VERY DEEP brain repair. It seems to require the high doses for the repair to happen that deep in my brain.

Secret Heart, from what I understand, it is actually hydroxocobalamin that is primarily used in the injections given by doctors. You still need to take methylcobalamin in addition to hydroxocobalamin to fulfill all the nuttional functions of methycobalamin B-12.

    Mookie,

The methylcobalamin that I take right now is both the B-RIGHT formula from Jarrow, or the Methylcobalamin 1000 mcg tablets from Jarrow. My doctor who is extremely picky about the brands of suppliments his patients use said that Jarrow is mid-high level in quality and seems pretty happy with my using the Jarrow brand although he prefers Metagenics. He said when I run out of what I have, to use Absorbable B-12 methylcobalamin spray because you absorb more of it through a spray. I will probably keep a back up of the Jarrow brand because I feel secure and happy with it. Yes, I use the Jarrow brand on the link I posted in.

I recommend the "PERQUE Activated B-12 Guard". You can't get it everywhere, because I think this brand requires that only medical doctors can sell it, but it's the best! I use it and have noticed a tremendous improvement in my general well being. You can get it from tree of life, or sometimes from a nutritionist in your area. Perque is a common brand, so I bought it from a nutritionist near me. Same price that TOL has.

    Karen,

I too think that i have suffered some degree of neurological damage due to a lack of b12....my question is, what dosage is your Doc recommending? Last week I took a total of 4,000 mcg, this week I'm down to 2,000....I haven't seen my doctor yet...what does he/she suggest you take? I might do something similar...

I see my doc in June...can't wait to run the gamut of blood tests:> I'll faint for sure!

    JMD,

Duh, I just pasted it in the post above. Sorry about that.

    Secret Heart,
I read in several articles that a therapeutic dose is between 1000-6000 mcg's per day. I asked my RVD if that was all right and he said yes. There is no know toxicity levels of B-12 methylcobalamin intake, but it seems to be from studies that doses higher than 6000 mcg's per day are no more effective than those below 6000 per day. In other words anything above 6000 mcg's per day is probably not going to benefit you that much. If you want to know for sure if you are doing the right thing, you can call my RVD at 612-87-GREEN for a telephone consultation.

    Thanks for the tips Karen!

Do you find that taking the B12 makes you really hungry the next day? It could just be me but I feel soooo hungry the day after I take it...

I haven't really noticed but I do feel like I am eating more. I don't really get hungry though, I just feel like eating. That is interesting though. I sounds like a good thing though. Maybe it is helping to activate some other mechanisms in your body that required methylcobalamin to function properly. Just a guess.

    Secret Heart,

You sound much happier and brighter in your posts. I hope your are enjoying the newfound benefits of your B-12.
