    Default vitamix

I see a lot of recipes use the vitamix. Is there a cheap place to get one? Do you suppose there are some a garage sales?

If I can't find one (or at leasst until I do), does another appliance work as well?

Alissa sells them on her site, and I haven't seen them on ebay, but you might try there. or Craigs list.

I know alot of people say any blender will do, but I make nut milks and milkshakes with ice every day, and I grind flour in mine.
So, I really am happy with my Vita Mix

    Sebert2,

I think a high-powered blender (Vita-Mix, K-Tec) is a necessity if you are going to use it often (we use at least 2-3 times daily) and if you are going to do some of the tougher stuff (make nut butter, etc.)

We got our first VM on e-bay and I also purchased one there for a friend. Those were the older 3600 models for about $100 + shippping. If you can wait it out, you can find one. A few times a year V-M also does in store shows at Sam's so you can get the whole thing a bit cheaper than from them directly, although I think Alissa's price is pretty competitive too! I just looked at it as an investment and since it's not just a gadget that collects dust once the novelty wears off but is actually used every day it's well worth it for the convenience and ease of use it provides.
