    Default Green Smoothies

I read over and over about the amazing benefits of green smoothies! I tried making one in the past, and it was decent, but not amazing. Where do you all get your great green smoothie recipes? I read the Ode to Green Smoothies by Victoria Boutenko, but her recipes called for so much quantity of ingredients! If I make a recipe I'd prefer it be one, or two servings since it will only be for me. However if that's not possible I understand. Thanks!

I usually modify the green smoothies, since I'm only one person and can't handle as many bananas as everyone else. I normally will use one banana and about a cup or so of frozen fruit along with a handful of greens and a cup or two of water.

    Hope that helps!!

I just usually fill the food processer (dont have a blender yet) up with a couple of good handfulls of whatever kind of green leaves I've got. And then I add fuit to the taste of how sweet or bitter I want it, and then I add water to get the texture I want. This afternoon I had 2 big handfulls of spinich with 1 whole fruit (an orange to be exact!) and some lemon and I just poured until I it looked like I wanted it. It was really tasty!

Try to get your favorite fruit and just have at it! Have fun and experiment with it too. :)

I just started drinkin green smothies it is so much easier to eat raw and I don't have much of a craving for anything cooked, I love em!

Veggie's recipe sounds about like mine (though I DO use more fruit and greens as I am making smoothies for 5 or 6)

But you can always just cut back on the amount of fruit OR...make it as/is and then put the rest in a mason jar and refrigerate and have later. I usually make a large batch and then my kids can easily pour some through the day as they want it.

    Default Green Smoothie Recipes

just a "snip" from the newsletter

    Green Smoothie Recipes
Victoria writes in her newsletter: “Some of my favorite greens to add to smoothies are parsley, spinach, celery, kale and romaine lettuce. My favorite fruits are pears, peaches, nectarines, bananas, mangoes and apples. Strawberries and raspberries taste superb in green smoothies, when combined with ripe bananas.”

My note: the best water to use in smoothies is alkaline water from the Jupiter Melody or Microlite at eatsprouts.com/water. Also quickly rinse your greens under the MelodyÂ’s acid outlet if theyÂ’re store-bought, to kill pathogenic microbes.

Preferably donÂ’t rinse any greens you pick yourself, they have healthy microbes, like the ones making Vitamin B12. Fresh-picked greens from the soil are a good source of B12. Cows get their B12 (present in their raw milk) from eating green grass.

Here’s delicious fruit-green combos from Victoria. My note: I leave the water out because I seldom drink with meals – water dilutes our digestive juices. I also tend to use less fruit, about 30% fruit and 70% greens, because fruit sugars lead to teeth sensitivities, they eat away at the enamel.

Greens are the perfect food for building strong bones and teeth – nearly every animal on earth has discovered that, except the big cats and polar bears!

Recipes from Victoria's newsletter, email victoria@rawfamily.com:

2 large mangos, 1 bunch parsley, water
6 peaches, 2 handfuls spinach leaves, water
2 mangos, 1 handful wild weeds (e.g. lambs quarters, stinging nettles, purslane), water
1 cup strawberries, 2 bananas, 1/2 bunch romaine lettuce, water
4 apples, 1/2 lemon juiced, 4-5 leaves kale, water
4 very ripe kiwis, 1 ripe banana, 3 stalks celery, water
4 ripe pears, 4-5 leaves kale, 1/2 bunch mint, water
10 finger-bananas, 2 handfuls of spinach leaves, water
3 bosch pears, 1 handful raspberries, 4-5 leaves kale, water
    Raw Family's favorite Green Smoothie:
1/2 pound fresh lamb's quarters, or 1/2 bunch fresh dinosaur kale, 2 ripe mangoes, 2 very ripe bananas, 1 quart water. Blend thoroughly in a Vita-Mix blender. Yields 1/2 a gallon of delicious smoothie. Will keep for 24 hours in the fridge or cooler, stored in a glass container.
Are YOU drinking YOUR quart of GREEN SMOOTHIE today? Buy bunches of greens, a variety of fresh fruits, a Vita-Mix Blender, and CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

    Enjoy!

Thanks every one! I will have fun experimenting, and save in the fridge any remains.

This morning I made one with the flesh/water of a young coconut, a handful of pineapple (I will be juicing the pineapple skin and making ice cubes out of it for the next one) and one banana and 2 handfuls of spinich. Not terribly sweet, not bitter, definitely filling!

For me, the amount of ice can make or break my smoothies

I shove a couple of handfuls of spinach and kale into my Bullet, two bananas, or some strawberries, half water, whip till smooth, add ice to fill and blend.

If it's not icey cold, the flavors are heavier...although some winter mornings, I added apples and sipped it warm.

Victoria tells in her book or dvd can't remember which, that many people don't like the flavor at first but within a short period of time they love it and crave it.

I didn't like the flavor at first either but I did like it within a week and now it is one of my favorite meals. I did start off by putting a little stevia in it. It made it so much better.

My all time favorite is to fill my blender with spinach and add about a cup of frozen blueberries. If I have a pear I will throw that in too. I also eat around it meaning I still eat whole fruit like bananas with my smoothie. I tend to want to still chew something and I LIKE to eat fruit.

    It works for me!! ;)

Default Favorite Recipe and Keeping Pineapple Fresh

    2 bananas
1 one-inch slice of fresh pineapple (peeled of course)
1/2 of the water from a young thai coconut and some of the meat
2 or 3 dates, pitted and soaked if they're hard

I put this in the blender then fill the rest up with collard leaves. Don't stuff them down.. maybe 3 or 4 large leaves.

    Blend it up and YUMMERS!

By the way.. the BEST way I've found to keep pineapple is to TWIST off the greenery... then just start slicing when you need it from the bottom. Peel each slice as you use it.. much MUCH easier than trying to peel a whole pineapple.

Store the unsliced, unpeeled portion cutside down in a cereal bowl in the fridge. This will keep fresh all week long. At a slice a day, it keeps about 5 days to a week in my house.

I also store the coconuts in their own shell. I just pop the lid back on and stick it in the fridge and use the 2nd half next day.

By the way.. the BEST way I've found to keep pineapple is to TWIST off the greenery... You have to REALLY HOLD IT TIGHT and TWIST FIRMLY, the entire stem just twists right out cleanly. Then just start slicing when you need it from the bottom. Peel each slice as you use it.. much MUCH easier than trying to peel a whole pineapple.
