    Unhappy Fourth Day Freak Out

I am having such a ROUGH day Arrggg! Today is day 4 of eating what I consider pretty much 100% raw - yay for me. Yesterday afternoon I couldn't stop grinning and smiling for no reason and today I'm irritable and feeling slightly homicidal

I've been eating basically non-stop since this morning, and although I've kept it raw I feel like crap, sorry to be blunt. I've got a headache. I'm moody. I'm restless and bored. I feel like eating anything at all and keep walking up to the fridge or the cupboards, and then saying No, stop, you don't want that floury crap. I sit down, then I'm back in there 5 minutes later!

I've eaten an excess of sesame seeds ground up with honey, a huge amount of raisins and dates (the raisins are probably not actually raw but close enough I hope)

I managed to get 2 stalks of celery in there somehow... this is after I had a big smoothie this morning, well two batches of it cause I was still 'hungry'.. which ended up being a total of 7 oranges and probably 3 cups of frozen raspberries with coconut water and my usual additives (lecithin granules and ground flax). I've been drinking tons of water too.. but I still feel like my stomach is empty, even when I KNOW it's not

It's like a perma-binge day. I guess there are lot of anxities and worries in my head right now which I've tried journalling about... Ah maybe it's just gonna be one of them days. Eat eat eat eat eat ---- oh kettle boils. I'm making some peppermint tea in hopes of quelling the raging thing in my belly.

you are detoxing, so get excited.

THIS IS the beginning of a wonderful situation.

So, eat all you want as long as it is raw, honey, dates, sesame seeds, this will pass, don't worry about the greens and all today, you are on your 4th day, so celebrate that.

it isn't easy, and it does get easier each day you are raw.

So, allow the detox, to be exactly what it is, getting the yuck out of your system, and eat those dates if it keeps you raw.

Good luck, and keep us posted,

    4 days raw!!!
    WOW

    Thanks, that's so sweet

I'm thinking I'll need to tell my sister and mother what's up so if I snap at them we don't create an awful eruption or bicker all weekend.... how do I say I'm detoxing without actually saying 'detox'??? They think it's all BS, the whole alternative health movement and detox and cleansing is quackery apparently.

and I have the same issue that some other people have mentioned in that my family doesn't exactly support my raw choices. They consider it disordered eating and a ploy to lose weight while on some secret crash diet or something. This is stressing me out a lot because I don't know how to tell them I'm trying to eat 100% raw again without getting into the whole debate which seems unresolvable at this time....

I'm terrible at sticking up for myself with family... which is weird because I've learned to be very assertive and diplomatic with friends and the public while working etcetera, but when it comes to the home, well... meh...

Sorry sorry sorry! I'm just going off again I wasn't prepared for this speed bump to show up so soon I guess.

So I'll take your advice Raw Priestess, and try to be excited about the detox. It IS exciting, when I stop to think about it. Four days and my body is already able to do some house cleaning? Pretty good actually (Hello moodswings!) Now suddenly I'm all yay for headaches! Woo Hoo!

All I can say is I am VERY GRATEFUL for this forum. It's like your own little personal cheerleader or something. I've already found it to be immensely helpful and encouraging.

Do you have Alissa's book? Maybe get them to read part or all of it. That could help with their being agains it.

While I do agree with RawPriestess, I personally thing that some of the detox symptoms in the first week are due to withdrawal as opposed to general detox. That has been my experience anyway. Headaches, muscle soreness, exhaustion, short temper. When I first started, cutting out coffee, refined sugar, chocolate etc was a pretty big change in the way that I ate. Refined sugar alone works like a drug in the body producing beta-endorphins, which is the same effect that some illegal drugs have. So withdrawal after removing this from your body is a real possibility.

You could try telling them that you edgy because you are in sugar/coffee etc withdrawal. Lots of people get that because they have seen withdrawal when people quite smoking. That way you don't have to explain about your whole lifestyle change in a time when you feel like yelling at people.

    Best wishes,
    J

    Hey there,
you already got all the details from RawPriestess so all I can be is encouraging. There's no need to fear overeating on raw, as you know. Dates and nuts are the best at curing hunger so keep that up, I actually find that a large hard apples (pink lady, granny smith, fuji) can be very filling. And the large carrots and parsnips. Or if you have some hearty sprouted grains. Try anything and everything to find what your body needs right now, and remember that it will pass. Four whole 100% days is amazing! That is such STRENGTH and DEDICATION. Keep it up, way to go!
P.S. If you want to spend some time in the kitchen pick a more complex recipe from http://greenchefs.tv that may be more filling, more like a SAD meal, and remind you how decadent raw can be!

    Default Thank You All..

The crisis is over - thank GOODNESS it was only a day long!

I just finished a huge salad with my 1st attempt at cashew 'cheeze' and my sister was surprised, pleasantly, that it actually tasted like cheese!

I feel SO much better today, I kinda feel like dancing

I am so glad I got to this 100% raw --- day five going fantastically (probably not a word, but hey, did I mention I feel like dancing?!?! )

I hope you all are having the best day ever! The happier I feel the more corny I get, go figure.... Thanks again for the support when I so badly needed it! Obstacle cleared :)

    Jordann,

Hi. The first two weeks or so, you may feel ravenous. I felt like I could eat all day and I still lost 10 lbs. Make sure you get you B-12 (methylcobalamin form). This is very important. Some of the symptoms you described were those of B-12 deficiency.

    Doin the DETOX DANCE!

Just tell em you got the flu!

Then just flow with that homicidal tendancy (I know it well!) and in a day or two you'll be rejoicing!

    Really...

    No... REALLY!
