    Default The food pyramid

How do you deal with the school system teaching kids about the food pyramid?

    Smile Teach your children well

    Hi Kristi,

At school my kids are taught what the school and the law dictate. At home, we stress raw foods and a healthier lifestyle. This year I'm planning to eat lunch once a week at thier schools. I'll bring my raw lunch. I can't wait for the lunch lady to ask me what I'm eating.

My kids understand raw eating and can decide on thier own what they are going to eat. I don't force raw, but talk about it with them. It's passive persuation.

The schools do what they can. In our school system the kids get a fruit and water snack daily. Yes, you heard me correctly...the kids do get real fruit and a bottle of water every single day. That's a start.

    Peace,
    M.B.

That's great that they get a fruit and water snack. Our kids are allowed to bring in a "healthy" snack and are encourage to keep a bottle of water available but that really depends on the teach and "healthy" covers some amazing stuff to many people. My kids have come home and commented about "healthy" snacks and are really understanding it.

I was wondering....have any food pyramids been designed for vegans/vegetarians and raw? It would be interesting to send one into health class.......maybe I'm just a rebel with a cause!

Yes, there is a vegan food pyramid...now where did I see it??

Who's the raw food guy in Montreal...Frederique...?? I think it's at his site but I'm sure there's others. If it crosses my path again, I'll post the link.

There are heated debates here about getting pop machines and junk food out of schools. I doubt it will ever happen but it is opening up people's thinking.

I think they should ban pop machines and junk food. My son ate a "honey bun" (like a donut) every day at school until I found out. What are they doing offerring that crap to kids.
