the ones at the top are ok, do i need to stir em more?
tips?
also what do you guys do with little greens sprouts besudes just adding em to salad? I like my greens blended with apples.... yum maybe i should just put sprouts in with em....

I love what Alissa does, after soaking the grains/seeds overnight, she drains them and pours them into a large bowl. Then she spreads them out over the sides of the bowl. (Kind of like the idea behind Chinese cooking and the wok) This way there is a layer of grains/seeds all over the inside of the bowl. Let them set until nighttime, rinse and spread again. Keep rinsing at least morning and night until the sprout appears. It works like magic. If they need to green up, just put in the sun the last few days of sprouting. I had wheat berries that sprouted in just one and a half days using this method!
Good luck!

What that means
In general stinky, smelly, groady (in any order) means too much water and not enough air. Or not rinsing frequently enough. Or too high a temperature. Or any two or more of the above.
Rinse at least 2X a day, lay the jar or tube down on its side and shake so the seeds or beans get spread out. Keep cool and dark until ready to green up in the light the last day.
Of course, using the fabulous, world famous ShivaSprouter, cheap at half the price, which I detailed in another recent thread here would probably answer ALL your problems, but I don't want to seem pushy or anything. :)

I like this
I like the idea about draping them over the sides.. that way the water can drain out of them, which is why they get sludgy and brown. Great idea!

I've found that when I'm having air circulation problems that using a sprout bag vrs a jar or tube sprouter solves the problem. Now if you don't have a sprout bag that's no biggie, it is easy enough to subsitute a nylon knee-high or a set of panty hose into a sprout bag.

Yeah, I have given up on the jar method on the smaller sprouts!! They always get moldy. I'm trying the bamboo plates. LOTS of air circulation here. Its only day 2, but so far no mold. I just spread them flat. Put an inverted plate on top. I have my fingers crossed.........
