    Default Bruises

I've noticed that I seem to be getting a few bruises on my legs... is this normal when going raw? I've been 100% for 10 days including today.

Hi RawMagnolia, I had posted this thread a little while back, yes it does seem that this is normal when going raw and had noticed after I had posted about bruises they too had experienced th same occurance. I would do a search and see what you can find on this also. Hope this helps. Blessings Karen

It may be because your skin is becoming softer...? Have you noticed a change in the tone of your skin? Softer, more delicate skin tends to be more prone to bruises.

Through research I have done in the past, I found found that some people think bruises are due to deficiencies, specifically in vitamin C. However, I really don't think that is the case. I have always bruised easily, but I don't see how I could be deficient in vitamin C.

Increase your intake of vitamin C and bioflavonoids (through fruits and dark leafy green vegetables).

I bruise quite easily and i was told it was because I have been anemic for like 12 years?? I am 34?? I am NOT saying you are just sharing my experience.

I find that I notice MORE things on and around me now being RAW versus SAD..when I ate SAD items or things i was sensitive to I was pretty clueless about my body and what I was doing to it. Maybe you are just noticing things more now b/c you are clearer headed?? Just a thought??

I've read that bruises aren't necessarily because of a deficiency (although sometimes it can be). Softer skin tends to bruise easily, so just because you bruise easily doesn't mean you are deficient in something. How often and how many bruises do you get? that's key really I think.. I bruise once in a while, mainly on my legs.

All I can say is, increase your intake of vitamin C and bioflavonoid rich veggies/fruits. Eat all raw and be happy! Be positive and know that your body is absorbing all the nutrients that it needs to be healthy.

Yes I have always bruised easily... and Jen I think I was recently anemic b/c my doctor put me on iron pills (hopefully soon to be done).

But these bruises are appearing from nowhere... I didn't bump into anything. So perhaps it's to do with my fat breaking down. I've been 100% for the past 10 days, so it's all being allowed to be flushed... perhaps this is a stage in that.

Heabrook... yup my skin is noticable softer in certain areas. I will go and look
    for your thread.

    Thanks all!!

Here is my experience with bruises:

I NEVER used to bruise easily; however, when I began my raw journey, for the first few months I would have bruises EVERYwhere, and I think it is because your body is "down" I guess you could say. My body was detoxifying so much that while my weight was dropping (I WAS eating enough and getting enough nutrients) my body was just getting rid of sooo much that I believe in eliminating so many toxins that maybe it couldn't focus on that right then. OR, it was rebuilding my system I guess. Now, I don't bruise easily at all, so that is why I say that it was just getting out with the old and in with the new!! Let your body do its thing, it will heal itself.

oh yes, I can be laying in bed and wake up with bruises. blood stagnancy --being that toxins store heavily there. Keep your liver happy!

When I first went raw I had lots of bruises from out of nowhere.
I read that this was a normal detox reaction to going raw.
I don't remember which book that was in.
I no longer get bruises. It happened during the first couple months.

Bruises are blood under the skin from traumatized blood vessels, correct, and the weaker the blood vessels, the more you bruise. When I smoked and drank heavily and lived off quarter pounders and chicken wings (oh dear) I bruised constantly - I could press my finger into my thigh and bruise. Then I cleaned up my bad habits and diet, and now it takes quite a whallop to bruise me.

So....I'm thinking that Linda may be onto something with the liver thing.
It is the organ most responsible for detox, after all, and going raw sends alot of crap through that particular organ. I wonder if goldenseal and milk thistle would be helpful to take while in the initial stages of raw (or after a major setback that gums you up again.) I can't see that it would hurt, and may just help out your hard-working liver.

I am 100 percent raw for over 4 months and I did notice that last several weeks I always have bruises on my legs, but I have a 2.5 year old son, so I thought it was just his tantrum results...

Hum, I must be different, as I used to bruise terribly when I was eating SAD and also vegetarian, but once I went raw, no bruises. hummm, I'll just be different then.

Nope, no different. It seems right on with what others were saying. While on SAD and even vegetarian your liver was toxic, therefore you bruised easily. After you went to raw your liver had a chance to detox and get better so you won't bruise :)

I didn't bruise easily when I was vegetarian. I never bruised easily.
When I first went raw, I found several bruises on my thighs. I would
count them daily as a game. But after my detox they were gone.
I went through a year of liver cleanses before I even thought about
going raw & I didn't have any bruises.
Plus there was no reason for me to be bruised since it's not like I was bumping into things.
