Default Husband wants to take me to fancy restaurant

My husband wants to take me to the most expensive and fancy restaurant in town that serves ONLY cooked foods (no salads) slathered in butter. THe thing is, this dinner may be "free" (because he's building a railing for the business) and it's not the type of restaurant you can just take any ol' buddy to. Any advice on what I can do to stay raw when I'm there?

ugh! how can they not have salads?

well, maybe they so somethin fancy with spinach and you can just ask them to make u a salad out of that.
alot of places garnish with green leafy stuff, too
also, fruits are popular on fancy desserts so just ask them to put some aside.

    best of luck on this

They don't offer any salad at all??!! Surely they must. Call ahead and ask if they can make a large raw salad.

Bring your own food. Eat a bit before you go and bring in your own so that you can still go with him if that's he wants.

But I wouldn't binge or give in and eat that greasy food. Don't be afraid to ASK, some restaurants are more than happy to fix you something that you can eat.

Call them ahead and if it's a REALLY good chef, he'll be happy to oblige you. Unless everything they have is canned, what they use will have to start raw. You may have to say "it's for medical reasons"...and actually, it is. You don't wish to become a medical statistic.

I echo what has been said ... Call and discuss your dietary needs with the staff. ... sliced whole fruit, salad, raw vege platter, see what they have.

If they simply do not have Anything, then ask if could bring your food and have them serve it to you. Of course, you would pay an amount for that. That way, you have a served meal, and you still eat the food that is right for you.
If they will serve your food, make a nice salad and main dish, and you've got it covered. Oh, and don't forget dessert!!!

    Good luck! Enjoy the evening.
    Cheers

Hmmm...good ideas. I'll certainly call ahead and ask. Mostly they serve fresh seafood as their business sits about 80 feet back from the pacific ocean. Lovely. I don't plan to quit eating raw at all as I know one little bite will send me over the SAD edge!
    Thank you!

I must agree with what was said...

Last time I went out to eat they only offered me a teeny side salad, BUT i had eaten a snack before I went, enjoyed the company, and ate another snack when I got home.
I think calling ahead and stating EXACTLY what you need is the best. I am notorious for bring my own avocado, baby carrots, and dressing etc. u may want to do that ~but... if it is fancy you may not.
The BEST thing is you are planning it out now so that you can GO with ease and enjoy the people and not come home too full and belly aching later.

    Enjoy!

i end up eating side salads, surely they do salad garnish with the meals???
in all the places i have been so far they will not do anything special sigh. one place they had a side dish of vegetables, my hubby asked if i could have that but raw, but alas no was the reply, so i just had a side salad. their loss.
i think its a good idea to eat beforehand, or have something with you ;)
    i hope it works out.
oh yes this one place i went did me a good side salad, and they did raw guacamole and they put it on the plate for me like a proper meal. that was cool :)

I'm the first one to say "it can't hurt to ask." But just so you know, many restaurants, especially those in hotels, will not allow you to bring food into their establishment. If you run into that the most common reason is that 1) local health ordinances prohibit it and/or 2) it creates a liability issue for them. If you were to bring a birthday cake, for instance, and everyone had the restaurants food for dinner and then your cake for dessert, and everyone got food poisoning, who would be at blame? Anyway, if they say no don't be upset. It's nothiong personal.

I don't think I COULD bring my own food. This is the fanciest restaurant in town. It only has like 8 tables! They would certainly see me smuggling in avocados!! LOL! I think I will just call ahead, although I've never seen them have vegetables there that I can remember. :) I'll try.

I would just eat before I leave. I have done this more times that I can count because usually the plain ole salad fare isn't enough, anyway. So, I eat well before I leave.

Then I may simply order water with lemon. Or, decaf herb tea and maybe a very small salad that I can nibble on, so as to not look suspicious.

I don't know where you are, but in WA state it is against the law to bring outside food into a restaurant.

this is what I have done.

I eat a big huge wonderful raw gourmet meal befor I go, this way I won't feel deprived, then I order something super expensive that I know my hubby will love, something that can easily be taken home and heated up.

I also look at the menu and see if they have any fresh raspberries, orange, lemon, or whateve, I usually ask them what their garnish is, and order a plate of that.

If it really is a fancy shmancy restaurant, they will have fresh fruit garnish, I was once asked to this super fancy super expensive restaurant and this exact thing happened.

    so I know it works.

so, allow your hubby to do this wonderful thing for you, and love him for it, he could have easily asked a co-worker and he chose to ask you.

How can a fancy restaurant not have continental salads?? That's like a "must have" if a restaurant wants to survive since it's usually an a "apperatif."

    Curious, what restaurant is this?
