Default Calling All Veggie Juicing Experts!!!!

    Hello All,

Am new here and got great support in the Welcome Area! Thanks to all that posted there.

I did do a search looking for posts on my question but found none, perhaps I used wrong search words......Anyway I am veggie juicing.
I am looking for a better way if any, to store my juice for a day or two. So I can make it during one juicing for the day or two. I currently use a hand pump called the pump and seal I got on line. It was only about 20 bucks. It does remove the air but makes alot of added froth and bubbles while doing so. It looks like the bubbles collapse during the final pumping. The juice is fresher than not using this device but I am wondering if there is a better way as the juice still does not taste as good as fresh. Just trying to improve the nutritional quality and help it go down better! LOL

Before I bought the pump and seal thingy I would fill the mason jars all the way to the top and then seal them with the lids. I read this tip on line and it was supposed to keep the juice fresh. It did not. It would turn brown and rotton tasting and would not last the day. I do use alot of greens!
Then I got the above device and as I said it does work better but makes too much froth and air bubbles as it is removing the air.

So now I am considering getting the gadget with the bags and canisters you buy at the store. I forget the exact name. It is used to store stuff in the freezer etc. It removes all the air but not by hand as with the cheapo thingy. I have lots of kitchen gadgets though, so not sure if I should buy it. It is expensive but if it works better than what I am using I will buy it.

Any tips or suggestions on what works for others if anything does, would be greatly appreciated! Making up the juice during one time frame does help with my following thru throughout the day cause then I can just get it from the fridge instead of juicing and cleaning up each time. Something I fail to do more than once per day. I do know the best is to juice fresh.

    Thanks!
    Karen

    Default Green Star Juicer

Try the green star juicer. you can check into it online. The juice from that juicer lasts 24-48 hrs, because of the twin gear which is magnetic. I have one and love it. Alissa may have it on her website too. Hope this helps:)

I've been wondering the same thing about storage. I'd like to do a juice fast soon, but I know I'll be needing juice while at work. Woa - I just had a crazy idea - I could bring my juicer and produce to work with me & make it fresh! This could actually work with my working environment, but most people wouldn't be able to do it. I'd still like to know what's a cheap and effective way to prolong the life of juice. Where are the experts at? Hello?

Default Calling All Veggie Juicing Experts!!!

    Mishka,

I do have a green star! Bought it last year and used to use it all the time. And ya know, I saw absolutely no difference in the freshness or staying power of the enzymes. I know they claim it is better than the centrifugal ones but I really think that is marketing hype. :) I use alot of greens and it turned brown really fast despite their claims.
I recently got a Waring Juicer and like it alot better. I had tried the Jack LaLane one too and did not like it.

Thanks for the input, I do appreciate your help and thoughts very much!

    Sincerely, Karen

I think the secret to getting more shelf life out of green vegetable juices is to include some lemon in the juice. I use a GreenStar. I leave a little air space at the top of my jars so I don't make a mess when I open them, and my green juice tastes quite fresh (refrigerated) 48 hours. It certainly is not brown. Without the lemon, I would want to consume it within 12 hours.

I have the tilia brand vacuum sealer. I absolutely LOVE it!! You can find it on sale for $40 or Sam's Club carries it for around $120 or so including bags and a canister or two. We bought ours off of TV (gasp) and got all the extras with it and it was actually cheaper to do it that way. Each canister is $20 on sale,(perhaps it was Best Buy where I saw it? I can't remember) but ours came with the mason jar attachment so I assume that you could use the mason jars to keep produce, etc fresh for longer and not have to buy a bunch of canisters.
I haven't tried it with juice, but I have used it for EVERYTHING else! And it is way worth the price. Sears sells an off brand and the accessories are cheaper-but I don't know how well it works. I have used the canisters to save veggies in the fridge and it was amazing. It made them at least look fresh for about a week longer than without vacuum sealing.
    Hope that helps!

    Everyone,

I froze some carrot juice a couple of weeks ago in a plastic bottle. I will unthaw when I go out of town. Is this ok, and will it be fresh enough?
