It IS safe to eat raw while you are pregnant. You will be providing more nourishment for yourself and for your baby than you would if you ate cooked.

    Freeme,

Hi, I am 16 weeks along and have been raw on and off over the years. I was miserable this first trimester,, yuck!! But 2 weeks ago I had an eyeopener... either get my blood pressure down or else can't have the baby at home( midwife is now licensed and having to abide by strict regulations).

Anyways, I am about 70 lbs over weight!!! YIKES I know,, terrible.
I have read so much about raw over the years that I knew the next pregnancy I wanted to be raw. It took me 13 weeks but here I am!!!!

So yes, raw is healthy during pregnancy. I feel great and have way more energy than a few weeks ago. And I can tell baby is growing. I can't wait to get to the end and be able to share how wonderful this pregnancy was and how healthy my baby is :)

There is a new rawpregnancy@yahoo group that has recently started. It is great and has some good info for you... you should join!!
I am keeping ajournal too here that I am posting what I am eating everyday.I have had a few slip ups but nothing that is too major or messed me up.

I am determined to stay raw and could use some encouragment myself. I would also be intersted in what you are eating during your pregnancy...

    Best of luck to you,
    Jamie:)

Yes, it is BEST to be raw on your pregnancy, because babies need nutrients to grow and not overdoses of fat, salt, protein etc.
    Think quality not quantity.
You must eat enough NUTRIENTS for two.
But listen to your body, because even people who are 100% raw before pregnancy mybe go 90% raw or even less.
Pregnancy is a crazy time. Hormones make us do all kinds of things.
    Good luck!

IT is safe to loose weight during pregnancy if that is what you are asking. It just isn't safe to diet. Cleaning up and going raw may lead to significant weightloss and that's fine: AS LONG AS YOU ARE EATING TO SATISFACTION.

It is the best way to eat for your baby, and you can get all the nutrients you need doing it. Heck, I'm doing great and I'm pregnant (26 weeks) and nursing. Congratulations and good luck!

congratulations on your pregnancy. it is safe to eat raw while pregnant! i was high raw and vegan with both pregnancies, and if we get to be pregnant again hope to do a 100% raw pregnancy. i just went 100% raw 6 days ago. anyway, i did not gain a lot of weight with either pregnancy. i think with my 1st i gained 25 pounds (and was like 85% raw) with my 2nd i gained maybe 20 (and with her i was back down to where i started within a couple of weeks after labor)

just make sure you are eating to satisfaction and that you are getting enough variety. hemp seeds are great also! it is supposed to be a complete protein. pretty tasty also.

my journal is at www.ethicalcentral.com/main if you want to look at it.

congratulations again! you will be providing much more nourishment to yourself and your babe by eating the raw foods. :)

hI, I am 20 weeks along as well. This is the best pregnancy of 11! ( I have 6 living children) I haven't had the ususal problems that I had in the past pregnancies. No sciatic nerve pain, no early contractions, no back ache or heartburn... really the best pregnancy. I love being raw. I have so much more energy and feel generally happier. I say go for it!

I too am 40 pounds overweight and have agreed with my doc not to discuss my weight as long as my baby is growing just fine. So I have no idea how much I have gained or lost but I can tell you that I am still wearing prepregnancy clothes, although my tummy is finally sticking out... :)

I want in on the yahoo pregnancy group too!

I am in the last month of my pregnancy.I am starting raw tomorrow morning.
I believe it will be good for the baby and good for the birth.

The raw experts say it's actually not a good idea to go raw once pregnant. That you should already be raw beforehand or wait till after. You can still eat some raw, just not best to go through the detox. This is just what I've heard many times. Always best to do your own research on other raw pregnancies and also consult with your own nutritionist/doctor/midwife/etc.

I wouldn't listen to those "raw experts". I went raw while I was pregnant too and felt great. Our body can manage to keep all the poison away from the baby, I'm sure. No need to worry. You know best what's good for you.

With all the knowledge I have now, I would keep as far away as possible from docs and nutritionists. But that's just me.

    Happy raw-baby-time :)

Go ahead with going raw! Its one of the best decisions you can make. I went raw during my pregnancy because it was the only thing that relieved my morning sickness. I had a home birth and have a happy healthy baby.

You're body will ultimately tell you what's best for it! Pregnancy is the best time for that stuff because your body becomes naturally attuned. Just don't limit yourself or obssess over it, if you need cooked food, go for the healthy stuff. (Whole grains, baked yams...)

    Have a happy pregnancy!:)

Ditto to all who have commented that going raw is healthy and safe for you and your baby! I would suggest even looking into ways to start your baby off right and provide them with as much raw food as you can early in their life. Like say...Raw baby foods. When they're old enough of course.

Your making the right choice for you and your baby! Good Job!
