Samson 6-in-1 juicer

I bought a new juicer a couple of weeks ago because my Jack Lalane juicer broke. I was fairly happy with it, but wanted to upgrade and found that I needed a slower juicer since I wanted to start getting into greens. My favorite juice drink is carrot apple so this was the first one I tried on my new juicer. I am disappointed that I got a very pulpy juice from my carrot apple. My other juicer did not give me any pulp until it was going on the blink. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to get pulpless juice or is this the way it's going to be with this style of juicer?

For carrot/apple, I suggest adding a little "finger" of ginger too, to cut the sweetness, and add a tough of zing.

With all the single auger machines - Samson, Omega, Solostar, etc, you get a screen to put over the juice collection container. That's to catch the excess pulp. Or use a separate wire mesh strainer.

An alternative is to use a "gravy separater" pitcher. Put the juice in, let it settle, pour off the clear juice and stop before the pu;p enters the spout.

I've yet to try it, but the newer Oscar VitalMax juicer is reputedly significantly more efficient at juicing (and eliminating pulp) than the earlier Samson/Matstone clones. You can even buy a conversion kit to make a clone into what is, effectively, a newer VitalMax juicer:

Although I knew pieces of the story, that site really cleared up some mysteries for me about what's been going on with the various juicers on the market of late, although I had to read between the lines a little, since US trade names have been different than the UK ones mentioned. I'm going to dig into this a bit more and see if I can fill in the gaps.

What is notable here is that this history does not mention the very shortlived model 8000, which was a Korean made twin auger machine like the GreenStar that was quickly dropped in 2000 due to quality problems, and that the obviously out of date history page ends with the 8001 (also made in Korea). But it is notable in passing that they thought of it then, when first introducing it, as primarily a wheatgrass juicer, to accompany their US made centrifugal juicers, which is exactly how I came to first get mine.

I have owned two of the Omega 8001, one which I bought maybe 4 years ago and later gave to a dear friend who was quite ill, and another I got a year and a half later, second hand but unused, to replace the first one for my own use. The quality of both has been impressive to me, although I did notice the minor problems mentioned with juicy fruit backing up, etc. Then when the 8002 came out with the 2 stage auger to address these problems I inquired about upgrading, and was told the 8002 juicing assembly does fit the 8001 motor, but that the entire juicing assembly (drum, auger, screens, end cap assembly) has to be replaced as a unit. This costs about $85 from Omega for the items actually needed for juicing, plus maybe another $15 if you want all the extra fiddly bits too.

But the 8005 (apparently there was no 8004, perhaps because there was new model issued in 2004?? I dunno) now on the market uses a different locking collar, so its juicing assemble does NOT work on the 8001 motor. And it appears to be the same unit as the Oscar VitalMax mentioned in the about info. Now I think I know why.

Oh, I wish they wouldn't keep changing the names and making it so confusing! I've just bought the Oscar VitalMax in the UK: I do believe it's also called the Omega 2005 in the US.

I couldn't be more pleased with it! It only 'backed up' once when I tried to juice some apples immediately after rather a dry clump of wheatgrass -- but it was easy to clear and I'm learning how to get the best out of it. It's wonderfully versatile -- I made some lovely almond butter today.

Aha! well, I think you should check how the new locking collar is SCREWED ON TO THE MACHINE - I am very reliably informed that the conversion kit I linked to, above, is fitted to the old matstone/samson machines by unscrewing (I mean literally, with a screwdriver) the old locking collar and replacing it with the new Oscar locking collar, thus eliminating locking collar incompatibilities with the new Oscar juicing assembly :)

I have a sampson juicer and I put the pu;p through two or three times to extract as much juice as possible. I dont mind the pulp in the juice as our bodies need fibre. If you really cannot take it then strain it through a fine cloth strainer, the sort that is used to strain jam (jelly???). or, let it settle and then drink the clear liquid, but then it will have started to oxidise.

I have an Omega 8003. Can I put the pulp through twice too?

Blix, how did you like the Samson. I am thinking of getting the Samson Twin Gear because I want to juice greens on a daily basis. I was looking for something easy to clean and that does the job of extracting a lot of juice. I already have a champion for the hard stuff, but want one primarily for greens, wheatgrass.

That's my latest ~ The Sampson. I think if I were going to get another, I'd go back to the Green Star ~ or is it the Green Life now? whichever. That would be my choice although I do like my "S" as it's way lighter and less bulky then my former GL.

I don't like the Sampson at all. I bought it because it was supposed to be easy to clean and to use etc., but the gear has broken once. We replaced it with one we bought online from Birmingham and that is on the blink now. The auger stains badly and bits of it have broken off. It leaves way too much juice in the pullp and, although we need fibre, there is a lot, perhaps too much in the juice. I put the pulp through again a few times, but as in the first juicing, soft fruit backs up in the auger and juice drips down the back. The juice can get into the maching too as we discovered when we dismantled it to put in the new gear. I will try getting the bits to upgrade it, but I wish I had bought a better quality one in the first place. It would be worth it.

When I do wheatgrass or spinach, it just crushes the plant and a few drops of juice gathers in the receptacle and A LOT of juice and pulp falls in the other one.
