Default How do YOU sprout wheatberries?

I tried sprouting wheatberries and they appear to have been bad- they had a nasty, cheesy smell. I want to try sprouting again but would first like to know what methods have worked for people on this forum. There appear to be different ways that people do this, so I'd appreciate any suggestions you can give me!

Hi! I have an example of sprouting wheat berries on my web site with pictures and a pretty detailed description of how I do it. You are see it here: http://www.therawtable.com/sprouting.htm

There are several ways people like to sprout: trays, jars, and others. This is my favorite way. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Hope this helps!

I soak 1 cup of wheatberries in a big bowl over night, then I place them in a jelly bag--muslin bag and hang them from my kitchen cainet near the sink, with a bowl under them, which catches any dripping water.

having them there reminds me to rinse them several times a day,

so, far in 5 years, I've never had a batch go bad. (lucky)

but I take the bowl and the bag, and fill the bowl with water, emmerse the bag with the wheatberries in it, and open the bag, stick my hand in, and swish them all up, so they all get rinsed and clean, then I rinse the bag several times, then I hang it back up with the bowl under it.

I do this when I go to the kitchen for a drink of water, or lunch or whatever, this way I KNOW I'm rinsing enough, and that seems to be the trick to sprouting.

I always use the collander method. One time I tried to do too many buckwheats at one time and they spoiled on me....maybe that's what happened to you? Really watch the quantity of berries or seeds you do at one time. Better luck next time!

MARAW: I never thought of using a colander! Just decided to start sprouting some last night for the first time to make some Rejuvalac. I will transfer them immediately! :)

I've used all sorts of ways to sprout. I love the sprout bags that Raw Priestess described, if you have high humidity the bags are a great plus because you get alot of air flow. You also do with a collander. I hang my bags in my shower or put them in my dish drainer, places where I'll remember to rinse them. I do only rinse my sprouts two or three times a day as I work all day. I rinse in the morning, when I get home, and try to remember to again before I go to bed. I also like the system called.. easy sprouter? I think. It is a white plastic container that has an insert. You put the sprouts in the insert and fill to soak, then you drain and rinse though the slots in the bottom of the inner container and just let them sprout in there. It is the same idea as using a collander and a bowl though.
