    Default post fasting and metabolism

I would really like to hear from fasters. Did you notice your metabolism being slower/faster after. I have read that metabolism normalizes after a fast. Then I have read that fasting ruins metabolism. I don't know what to believe but to hear from people who have fasted before.
I am concerned my metabolism will be ruined. Right now I am hanging in hoping that this fast will help me normalize my metabolism.
I just need to hear how others feel after their fast. Hopefully it is somehing positive to keep me going....if not I appreciate the honesty.

    Kiwilime,

Well, I hate to post this but you wanted honesty and this is what happened to me. I have ALWAYS had a HUGE problem with low metabolism. Two times I have fasted (for 1-2 months) and lost a TON of weight. Shorly thereafter, I returned to mostly raw foods (sometimes meat) and gained more weight than I ever have in my life. This last time, I went from 100 lb's up to 198 within 6 months. It does seem like my metabolism is slower, but I am now 40 years old and do not know if it getting older or the fast that did it. My meals are getting smaller and smaller, partly because I am not really hungry and partly because I am trying to lose weight, and I am still not losing. Also I am excercising because I would prefer to lose that way than starving myself of nutrients. I am going to meet with my RVD in mid April to discuss my metabolism issues and figure out how to get it going again. I personally wonder about the fasting and the metabolism issue. I basically blew up like a blimp afterward.

    Kiwi,

What you eat and activity level will determine. Are you more concenred about weight gain of the pounds lost?

This is a GREAT question, and one of the concerns I too have with fasting. I want to go on the MC, but am afraid of
    A) regaining the weight plus some
    B) loose flabby skin b/c I lost it too fast.....

    Help....

But, I need to get my body in order, my appetite in order, and my spirit in order.
    Please, add some more comments!

what's your goal for doing the fast?
when your fasting your matabolism will slow down because your not consuming the normal amount of intake. Which allows your body to work on other areas of the system other than the digestion.
When I did my fast I tried to go and do the same type of excercise that I did when my metabolism was normal and I almost pasted out. Then after my fast was over it took me 8 days of recovery before I could eat solid foods again,
and another 2 days before I could do some serious cardio. I lost 10 lbs on my fast and my metabolism has speeded back up and I am still eating much less foods than before.

My goals of the fast is to clean my body. I mean "deep" cleaning...and of course relieve symotoms (like headaches, pms, etc)..which already have been relieved.
I'm not fasting to lose weight solely (even though this is nice)....b/c I would stop the fast now....since I really only want to lose 5-10(max) pounds more. And I know I can achieve this with raw eating and exercising.
BUT....I haven't moved much since my fast (i know thats ok based on all that i read)....but I am really really scared that all this that I am doing and all that I believe in will turn around and kick me in the ass. Sorry...thats how I feel.
I don't want to detox and heal and end up with a mess up metabolism that will leave me gaining weight from eating a well rounded raw diet.
I'm afraid that I will have to eat soooo little later to not gain the weight back.
I realize that I will gain some weight back...but it would really be horrible to eat raw and gain weight b/c my metabolism is screwed.
I don't plan to break my fast now....maybe this is what they call "second guessing" the fast. But to me it is not worth going thru all this "healing" and have a messed up metabolism. I want to heal and be left with a normal metabolism.
Thanks Linda and Path...I need to know what really happens post fasting.
PLEASE more answers as I know many people are intereted in this.
And when I'm done fasting I will make sure to share my experience. ;)

AH hum. let's face it peoples..........9.999 out of 10 times we ALL do fasting to lose weight!!!!!!!!!!! I've seen it,heard it,been pm'd ten million times about it

It's true what Path said about the metabolism slowing down during fasting b/c the body is divertingall it's enzymes towards HEALING andyes losing weight happend to result.

With this "excavation" of toxins and junk out of the body, we are succeeding to allow our organs/system to work properly and efficiently.

After the fast, depending on how you transition back to foods, what you will eat and how active you are is going to make all the difference in the world.

However, I can GUARANTEE that if you finish a fast and binge on Jack & the Box's new crispy chicken sandwhich, not only will you gain weight, but you will have a headache, maybe feel momentarily good, hate & beat yourself up and then try to do another fast.........then the damage is worse, your stomach gets bloated more easily, stomach lining is irriated.......the journals speak for itself around here. It's sad but true. Fating is VERY serious.

Okay, sorry I was alittle of on a tangent. I just don't want people to abuse their bodies---they are so senstive and delicate :: pass me a hanky Path ::

There is going to be a softness to your body when losing all the junk out of it but again, how it's tended afterwards will make a huge differnece.

When you start eating again, there will be some check and balances. You may gain a few pounds b/c of what you are eating and as the body rebuilds, it is more efficient--like buring calories and fat etc.

Rebuild slowly,,,let your metabolism catch up. Be simple when adding foods back in........shocking your body willmess it up!

If you have the fear of gaining the weight after fasting,,,,,I would almost belive that there will be an epsidoe of bingeing.............do yourself a favor and honor the fasting cleanse and feed it clean nutritious food. Get soem fresh air adn exercise----you will be fine.

    Miss Linda,
What did you mean by the above statement?

I am guessing no one has any input as far as loose skin is concerned? I know that this seems paranoid, and I am embarassed to say this, but, that fear has even kept me up at night, and caused me to gain MORE weight, b/c I am too stressed.... I sound like a wuss... Sorry....

Swish, you were my next victim---I ws busy responding to another thread. I had a "itch" about you. What going on? Might seem funny about that but serious that --that thought would keep you up at night and gain more
weight? What's really going on.......you haven't been here as much???

Loose skin, do you mean the elasticity?

Thanks Miss Linda....you have been so helpful in this journey.

BTW...I have been researching all evening on this. What Linda says is pretty similar to what I have read. I read that it sometimes takes a month to bring the metabolism back to normal. This just tells me how careful I need to be post fasting.
I feel somewhat better and have decided that my body still needs to clean and eliminate for now....and when I feel ready to break it I will make sure to move very very very slow.
Hopefully my bowels become regulated too! :)

    An "itch", hahaha!

I was wondering when someone was going to respond to ANYTHING I said : )...

    Anyway,

I will respond more later, maybe even just start my own post so that I don't feel like I am hijacking others.

But, I don't stay up EVERY night worrying about it. I think I just have so many concerns. And, turning into an old saggy hag is one of them. Terrible, I know.
I am by far the HEAVIEST I have ever been, and keep gaining weight.

But, we'll "discuss" this later. Probably when I get home from work which is about 7pm PST : ).

    Thanks for responding!

But, what DO you mean by "softness"?

Yeah, I need to clairify some stuff I said.

I have an interview in a few... I NEED a new job. One of my stress factors. And then, I need a new everything: )... More details at 9.

    Hahaha!

Yes, rebuilding gently and slowly is great b/c not only for metabolism which a a large function aiding so many different things for the body.

Let's stress the fact that post fasting, you are STILL flooded with toxins and those solid foods you work back into will push them out. Myself, it was just as intense.

Also, in all seriousness, after fasting, we are rebuilding/stimulating blood pressre, diestive system (especially) liver, kidneys, pancreas, our minds, spirits etc. It's such a multi faceted experience that yes, slow and gently approach allows your body to adapt in a safer more effective way.

Kiwi, wish you all the warmth and best on your cont'd fast :)

Swishth, LOL......actually the title of this thread is perfect. Go ahead and post in here b/c ALOT of people who are attempting to do a fast will benefit from this common concern......if you don't mind ;)

Okay, well, Miss Linda, you STILL have not addressed the "softness" and loose skin issue : )

I am guessing that no one here has been very overweight? I KNOW that's not true!

We can get into my other stuff later ; ).

    Blessings!

    LOL, I totally fogot woman!

I've been betwen 20-25 pounds overwight in my life and had already lost alot of weight when I had develop the stomach issues this past year..........after fasting, the body became clean loose not flabby as in like DSM day when you miss a weeks owrth of exercising--ya know what imean?

where as fasting, the grime and toxins come out of the tissue layers and yes it is loose but you need healthy clean tissue to rebuild newer and better looking tissue.

Let me see if i can find info on skn elasticity

HOw much weight do you think you need to lose?

    :) brb
