I don't *like* juice...
Is there still hope for me?
It seems that, every time I make juice, I just can't stomach it. I've tried straight apple juice, straight carrot juice, a mixture of both, and a mix of both plus cucumber and celery. It's not really the taste that bothers me - more the texture. Those flavours in liquid form just seem...weird. And nasueating.
Funny story? The only juice I've ever managed to drink a whole glass of, out of all the juices I've made (which granted aren't many ) was straight silverbeet juice. OK, so it wasn't the most pleasant drink I've ever had, but I managed to drink a whole glass with no ill effects. But the others...nope. Just can't bring myself to drink them.
Um, not that I plan on drinking straight silverbeet juice again any time soon. That was more of an interesting experiment. And it was. VERY interesting.
So, did anyone else hate juices at first but grew to love them? Or even just tolerate them?

I haven't really had any problems with juice- but you might try diluting them with water, or straining them through a nut bag or really fine strainer to get the pulp out. Sometimes juices are grainy and pulpy coming out of the juicer and it makes them kinda gross. I don't like "chewing" my juice (unless I'm aiming for a smoothie or something). A good juice recipe book might help too-there are some really good ones. They don't taste so sweet or vegetable-y. Juice is really concentrated- try a little at a time. It's hard to stomach big glasses of straight stuff.
Good luck! :)

I was going to suggest the same thing...to strain it through a nut-bag (or if you don't have one, run out and get some knee-hi stockings...heard they work just as well).
I think, too, it could be expectation. For example, you mentioned straight apple juice...we're accustomed to apple juice being the way it is in the bottle...smooth, clear, not thick and pulpy LOL! But again, straining helps a LOT. I still don't care for veggie juice much and really not green juice; but guess what? I don't NEED them!! I can get what I need simply by eating them. The only times I even pull my juicer out is when I am attempting to do some kind of juice "fast"...other than that, my blender and food processor are my buddies. I know some may get me for saying it, but I think that juicing is overrated...that's just my opinion. I know some live by juice, but for me, it's not that serious.
So don't feel there isn't any hope for you for not liking juice because juicing isn't a mandate to be raw or anything else. Just eat the fruit or veggies you like/love and don't worry about it for now. Maybe even a citrus juicer and do oranges if it ever came down to it that you felt you "needed" to juice (like for a fast for example).
Just enjoy whatever it is you enjoy raw and the rest will (or it may or may not) come later! ;)

I agree... straining helps alot! I can't stand pulp or foam in my juices. Try it and you may find a big difference. My favorite juice is carrot. It is clean and smooth. Rawkinlocs is right, juice is not mandatory... if juicing isn't for you, just chomp your fruits and veggies the old fashion way...
-
I know it's not mandatory...I just like the *idea* of juice. :)
When people ask what I'm planning for lunch it sounds so much cooler to say, "Oh a glass of beet and carrot juice," than just "Beets and carrots." More for shock value than anything
Plus, there's the juice fast idea but if I ever get around to doing one of those I guess I could just use orange juice...I'm pretty sure I could handle that.
Hmm, even with the pulp and forth and all gone, I think the idea of vegetable taste in liquid form just kinda skeeves me out...Oh well. *heaves a heavy sigh, before putting on a brave smile*
Perhaps, in time...I will come to enjoy them...
If not, oh well!

Hey, Gnarly? Your tastebuds might still be changing. It takes a while for raw foods to taste as good as they should when we have been eating SAD for a while (or forever). It seems the more you eat (and drink) raw, the better and better things get. Maybe that's it?

I can relate to you thoughts on vegetable juice. Have felt that way myself at times, opting for fresh fruit juice over vegetable juice on many occasions. It tastes better!
When I become consumed in healing my body I force myself to drink it, I prepare it thinking of nutrients I need to add rather than flavor I need to add.
Then I close my eyes, stop thinking about what I'm doing and suck it up through a straw so it can bypass my tastebuds LOL
Ok, after doing this for some time, i feel the energy blast from the juice, and still focused on healing my body, I start to get used to the process. Like anything, eventually it becomes a habit, then a pleasant habit, then a way of life.
If I stop drinking it for a while, I more or less have to go through the same routine with myself again, I can't argue with the benefits, it's so worth the effort
Sometimes it's helpful to lay down afterwards, close my eyes and rest.
I don't know if this helps, it's just my take on the good stuff.
Some times it's life's elixer, other times is just medicine I have to find a way to get in.

Try Apple-Beet-Ginger-Lime... 'tis my favorite.
