    Default How to grow wheatgrass?

Haven't tasted any but looks like an essential part of a raw diet. How can I grow some without expensive equipment? Thanks.

    Default Wheatgrass

    I did it by accident
I bought hard wheatberries by mistake (instead of soft ones). I soaked them for 12 hours and then rinsed them 3-4 times a day for a couple of days until they started to sprout. I then needed a place to let them grow and something to grow in... I had two containers that I had saved from the grocery store that we had gotten a fruit and vegetable platter in that is shallow but any type container will do depending on the space you have. I put about 1 inch of moist soil in the bottom and then spread the seeds on top. I completely covered the soil with the sprouting seeds and tried not to overlap but they can touch. I sat them by the window in indirect sunlight and misted them 1-2 times a day. After several days I still misted a bit but then started actually putting water in to keep the soil moist. Well on Friday they were coming along nicely (they had been in there 3-4 days) and I came home today (Saturday) from a night away and the grass is 3-4 inches tall and beautiful green . I broke off a piece and chewed on it and it had the best sweet taste! I can't wait for about 2 more days when I can harvest it. I read that you can have it grow one or two more times but that is it. Then you just replant in fresh soil some new sprouted berries and in about 1 week- 1 1/2 weeks you have wheatgrass!

I was shocked that it was so easy! Fred Meyers here sells it for 1.99 for a 2 inch by 2 inch container and I can grow it for pennies! Let me know if you have any questions.

hi raene , i get my seeds at bulk food store and are very cheap . i bought dark colored plastic dish pans to hide the dirt smudges so pans look better sitting in utility room . put 3" soil in , sprinkle seeds at rate of 1 every 1/4" , cover with 1/4" soil , water every 3 day , in week its like 4" high , can start cutting it by 200 blades at a time at soil level , cut blades into 1/2" bits into half a blender full of water , blend at high speed , let sit for 10 minutes so minerals leach into water , strain . youll probably have to adjust to taste , its grassy but youll get used to it quick . good day :)
