Why would you say water fasts are dangerous? Have you read Herbert Shelton's book on fasting? He accounts how after supervising thousands of water fasts that it is not only safe but beneficial.

The pesto-stuffed mushrooms are good. You won't even necessarily notice they're not raw. Also things with guacamole are nice and filling--I think that is what cooked food eaters are most worried...

$100 is not my idea of affordable, but it's true that they can be found inexpensively. Sometimes you'll see them in thrift stores, garage sales, etc. but you may have to shop around.

Soaked/sprouted buckwheat isn't bad, either. A bit gooey, but if you make some sort of dressing for it like you would a salad it's not bad.
