I just looked up Metz Fresh, that label the spinach is processed by, and it says nothing about how the spinach is grown organically, so I am assuming it is grown conventionally.

I bought it at Whole Foods, and I keep the seeds in the refrigerator. The container in the fridge did not smell bad. When I ground it up, then I smelled it, and it smelled fishy.

So, it looks like I ate rancid ground flax today, because it smelled wierd (fishy), but I ate it. I just looked online and it seems when it smells fishy, it is rancid.

I have also read that your first soak should only be for 20-60 minutes, and then rinse, rinse, rince. I think that maybe the short first soak time cuts down on the slime.
