I got some at last and they are great except for one thing. The roots sprout through the fabric. This makes it tricky to get them out. I thought maybe it I boil them the fabric might shrink. What do you think?

Did you get the hemp bags? That's what I have and boiling em is how it's recommended to clean em. If they are hemp I don't think it would be an issue.
I also think that to get ?mung? sprouts to get fat tails is they are put under some type of weight. Maybe that would also help fatten up the sprout tails to keep em from growing through???
I don't know if they are hemp. The problem isn't the sprout growth. The sprouts are growing fine. The problem is the roots growing through the fabric.
Ahhh, I see. I just assumed since the roots are growing through the fabric then they must be pretty thin and figured that by getting the roots to fatten up it would prevent it from happening.
Putting fabric in HOT water does tend to cause it to shrink. It may be fine by boiling it????
The larger sprouts like mung do better than the small seeds like broc and radish. I will try boiling the bags and see if that helps.
See if keeping the bags in the dark helps. Cover the colander (or other dish) you keep them in with a dish towel (not touching the bags).
I don't keep them in anything. I hang them up but I don't think that will help. Roots automatically grow down. They hit the bag and then grow out through the holes in the weave of the bag. I'm hoping boiling will make the holes smaller.
