Hi guys,
If anyone else is in Phoenix area and is looking to do a little 'spring cleaning' aka Colonics(colon hydrotherapy), I found this wonderful place called Mind Body and Flow in Chandler. I've have colonics before but always had some side effects afterward...not anymore. I feel great actually. (if anyone wants to know more, just message me).

I'm not in your area but I've had lots of colonics and now do it at home with a Colema board and I came on here specifically to find discussions about colonics, learn about other people's experiences, get more info, more tips, etc.
Now I'm really curious about the side effects you've had. Do tell, if you're willing to share the details. I can take it, and maybe we could just add a warning for others if they're graphic or gruesome details! ;)
Well, I went to two different places prior to now- both legit businesses with licensed therapists. They told me I wouldn't have any side effects- I guess they don't consider this a side effect. Every time I went I had severe stomach pain(gas) for the rest of the day and night, sometimes into the next day. This gas would not release, it just caused extreme pain in my abdomen. I couldn't eat, I could hardly drink anything. They only way I was comfortable was to stretch out on my bed with my head raised slightly and sleeping was terrible.
This all happened some time last year and the year prior. I always used the closed machine.
Now, I went to a different place and they have newer machines. And I haven't had one problem. I can eat the same day, I can drink, I don't have pain and I release out a lot more with the newer model closed machine.
I also tried the open Libbe machine for the first time ever and I thought I wouldn't like it, but it was less invasive and I've been using it ever since.
I also found it easier to move through all the emotional 'baggage' that lies within the colon, part of the ease with that is readiness, a really great colon-hydro therapist and also the machine. I had a full set of 12 sessions, personal choice for me, my intuition said it was time and this was the way for me to cleanse.

I'm very intrigued about the emotional baggage part. This has really piqued my interest of late - the whole connection between emotions and things that, conventionally, are not thought of as being associated with emotions, like the colon.
Do tell!!! Please. :D
Recently, as I mentioned, I went through a series of 12 colonics. During almost every session, there was a point at which I was suddenly struck by a particular feeling- usually anger, sometimes I would suddenly remember something from the past that I thought I was 'over' but I found myself talking about it as if it happened yesterday. Then each day when I would return home, I spent the rest of the day in a 'resting' period. I could feel the old energies drifting away from me and I would usually wake up the next day feeling lighter, happier and in fact resolved about certain aspects of my past. I noticed through the 12 sessions that my thoughts about life, about myself, about my future were shifting to be clearer and more positive...not fake positive...but actually feeling positive. I felt more capable and all the thoughts that had weighed me down, no longer mattered.
I pulled these two pieces that really helped me understand our body and emotions. The first is from Greek Medicine:
Colon: "Since the balanced, proper action of black bile is important to proper colon function, the colon is very vulnerable to aggravations and excesses of the Melancholic emotions - especially chronic or deeply held worry, anxiety and nervous or emotional stress and tension. Security issues and deep insecurities will also impact negatively on the colon, since its functioning is intimately connected with the Root Center, or chakra, which pertains to our emotional security. These Melancholic emotional disturbances usually produce disorders like constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, or spastic colon, but if the aggravation is severe, even colitis and more serious degenerative diseases may result."
The other is from Dr. Richard Anderson of Arise and Shine Colon Cleanse. This is just a piece of one of his articles, but I pulled the part that I found most helpful:
"Many people, after completing a cleanse, feel energized, uplifted, and freed of old patterns, thoughts, feelings, and memories that have held them back. When a person is on a course of personal growth and wants to change their consciousness but is stuck in old negative patterns of thinking and feeling, there is nothing that will get them unstuck and change them faster than a colon cleanse.
In my observation of many individuals doing the colon cleanse, a negative state of consciousness is often, at an energy level, at the root of whatever physical problem they suffer from. Every thought or feeling we have has the potential of moving from the mind into the physical structure of the body where it can provoke illness. I estimate that about 70% of those doing the intensive colon cleanse will experience long-forgotten memories and buried emotions."

If you do enemas on a regular basis for a while beforehand then it should ease the discomfort of a colonic.
It was a closed system. It was not a gravitational system. It felt very much like natural birth labor. It was very intense. The colon hydrotherapist I went to has been doing this for over 20 years and the place I went to is owned and run by a couple that are raw and run the Raw Spirit Festival in Sedona every year. I was explained that what I experienced was very, very normal. In fact, it was completely described to me before hand what would happen, what I would feel and also about the pain. That the pain should not go over a 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 or over the worst menstrual cramps I have ever had. It got close. I don't mean to scare anyone. I just wish I had been prepared better myself. All I have ever heard was it makes you feel so much better and can even leave one feeling euphoric. I have never read anything about pain, discomfort or that you can actually feel worse for awhile due to the fact that the colon is now ready to be dumped into by your system creating more detox symptoms.
As far as the day after, my whole back and whole tummy area feels bruised, exactly how I felt after birthing my son 22 years ago. I have a horrible neck ache and head ache. Energy wise I feel the same. I was told that to do a thorough cleaning I should have a colonic three days in a row the first time. I couldn't afford that. I opted to do it the one time because I have been raw again for 2 weeks and have been deathly ill with detox symptoms.
I will post if things improve and what the improvements are.
I don't care how long they've been doing it. If it hurts that much then there is something the matter with how they are doing it. I don't think colonics is a sensible practice anyway and this story doesn't do anything to change my mind. I hope you feel better very, very soon xx
Update:
I feel really calm and focused. The pain has almost completely dissipated. I have had 3 bowel movements since the colonic so I know everything is working well.
I should rephrase that - colonics shouldn't be painful, per se, but they can lead to quite a bit of cramping.
Having one colonic might make you feel better, but it generally doesn't make much of a difference for most people, you need to do quite a few before you notice major improvements. Unfortunately, they are quite expensive and having one is better then none if you can't afford more, you just won't get the same benefit.
Update:
I had an AMAZING day yesterday! Lots of energy and no nausea from raw food (which I had been having).
Groupon has a great deal on two colonics, so I purchased them. I'm going to try again! :wow:
